HiImSean
im just wondering how far below the rim most of you guys keep your water level. im going to be building an overflow so i was thinking about an inch below the rim. Link to comment
seabass
Make sure that any holes drilled have at least 1" of glass between the hole and the edge of the glass (or you increase the chance of it breaking). Link to comment

When the return pump was shut off it was about 1.5" below the rim. Never had a problem with water spilling out or anything. Link to comment
seabass
The return causes some waves that come pretty close to the top. It's fine, but I really didn't think about that. Link to comment

gulfsurfer101
I went with a little more risk. I left about 1/4" from the top to give the appearance of a completely full tank. With my return pump off I get about a 2 1/2" drop with no overflowing. It has been put through a few power outages with no problems. Designing a failsafe plumbing system is key. Link to comment
