qwiksilver711
After my son assisted the death of my previous tank I took what I learned and am starting over. Bc14 with the nano tuners extra bulb. Maxi jet 900 and hydor flo on the return. Korilia nano for additional flow. Its done cycling and added a clean up crew from reefcleaners.org (great company), so here is my first fts... Keep in mind guys I brought it back from the brink and its a work in progress Link to comment
qwiksilver711
Thinking of adding a few clowns this weekend, what do you guys think? Link to comment
paneubert
If it really is cycled then you could do some small clowns. But do not shock the tank with a high bio-load all at once. Link to comment
qwiksilver711
ok thank you, it has cycled, I was careful about that Link to comment

Wish you luck hope everything works out. I found some pennies in the sand bed, and i know that my wife puts all sorts of lotion and crap on him, so I imagine that is what contributed to the downfall. I'm looking forward to making sure this one turns out better, plus I have a bit more money lately to spend. I've purchased the media rack, and light for the chaeto, and am lining up some corals, after that i think i'll get a hi fin red banded goby, and a pistol shrimp for him, maybe a clown or two, but i dont know, i'm almost tempted to make this a coral only tank, with just the cuc Link to comment
RussianBoy
I have a macro only tank at the moment lol well it's going to be a dwarf seahorse tank, I have not started a thread on it yet, however I did just order a massive CUC to split between my BC29 and the BC8 and a couple new macros for the horsies but everything needs to grow out, my order from StevieT will be here soon too for my BC8 it's been up and running for about a month, the only other thing I am thinking of doing down the road is to replace the stock lights with PC-R from nano-tuners, I have 144w PC-R in my 29 and it makes such a difference, since MH is out of my price range. How old was your son? Guess you can't be too mad if he is little, just kids being curious, but I am sure it totally sucked nonetheless. I would hate for my whole tank to crash, I probably would just sell it if it did, cause there is no way I have the money to start over, but at least I have my BC8 in case I had to save something. My son is 19 months, so he was really just wanting to touch things. I have solved this by letting him help me with the daily upkeep, he cleans the glass (as best a toddler can) with the mag float. I also let him clean the outside glass ( for pretend, with a dry paper towel). He is a really good helper to stir salt into my water for water changes too. He is learning not to touch the glass, and in general I think he is gaining a better understanding of what is going on. I have decided that if he keeps it up on helping me, and paying attention, I will buy him a BC8 for his birthday in April. He is actually very smart for his age, and is a darn good helper. So I think if I were to help him set up a fowlr with some 'nemos' (I call them that because that is what he calls him, hes a kid, forgive him) he would really do good with it I think. It really sucked that it crashed, but I'm taking it as an opportunity to spend more time with my son. Link to comment

qwiksilver711
It was a reference to the south park episode with the sexual harassment panda, when people would get harassed he would say he was a sad panda. Its a phrase commonly used inside of my circle of friends. I forgot that people might not get the reference. Link to comment
RussianBoy
oh like my old boss, he would say "wow that's nazi".... in reference to something not kosher or cool...then I started saying it and although maybe not the best phrase, i say it and people look at me like I just kicked their dog.... qwiksilver711
I put new lights in my tank last night, what a difference!! The pc lights there were about 18 months old (didn't know they actually needed changing every 6 months). I'll put up a new fts on the first post tonight when I get home from work. Link to comment
qwiksilver711
Well I came home from work and the wife had gotten some clowns. I think they are just regular occelaris, but I'm not sure, they seem to be doing good though. Why does one have the big dark spot? Link to comment

qwiksilver711
quick update, got the replacement bulb for my submersible led, so i got the chaeto into the media rack now so its not spreading all over my tank. Still fighting a gha problem in the display. Is this possible caused by it being such a new tank? I do keep up on my water changes weekly. Maybe I should start doing two per week? Link to comment
bps7772000
If memory serves the thick black around the stripes indicates that they are true percula clowns. Do you have two or three? I've read people buy three to see which two will pair then remove the other. Back when I bought two hoping they would pair, one bullied the other until he jumped out of the tank. Good luck. I just got two, hoping they will pair, but if they dont its just fine with me, i can take one out. They are pretty small, so I think and hope they should get along with each other. So when it comes to true and false percs... is the striping the only difference? I guess what i'm asking is is there a benifit to having one species over the other? Link to comment
