kallehornstrom
I just installed a 9002 skimmer in my 30g. It's the new type with magnet mount and the new tunze silence pump. When I first plugged it in it was difficult to adjust the air intake and there was a lot of large bubble forming while at the same time not enough air was being mixed with water. I then took it apart, cut of a piece of the airline to make it shorter and re-aligned the venture as the air holes was not in the correct position. Now the skimmer produces a nice medium brown skimmate and is easy to adjust. However it produces an annoying hum which can be heard from across the room. Is this normal? I thought the 9002 was supposed to be silent apart from a mild hissing sound from the rising bubbles. One thing I have noticed is that the collection cup amplifies the hum when the lid is on. Any ideas? BTW. I have the tunze nano filter (reefpack 200) beside it and it has the same type of pump. This unit is dead silent. Link to comment
StevieT
Sounds like (pun intended) with your modifications you have created vibration against something in the frame from the pump Link to comment

Any ideas? Mine is VERY quiet. I'd try taking it apart again, making sure everything is in the right place. I'm not sure what you mean by "re-aligned the venture" but that sounds suspect? Also remember it takes anywhere from a few hours to a few days to "break in" and may not produce a stable foam during that time. Link to comment
kallehornstrom
Ok, I will take it apart again and check that everything is in the right place. What I did with the venturi was talking it apart because it turned out that the holes where not lining up correctly. It must have been improperly assembled at the factory. Link to comment
