I am setting up a 65 gallon 36"x24"x18" and I need some suggestions on lighting.I found a light on aquatraders around $200 328 watts(250 of it MH) has anybody used one of these lights?Would this amount of lighting support SPS. Could use par38 lamps but unsure of how many to use.I would like to use the maximum amount of light without using a chiller.Any help would be appreciated.

If you want SPS on that tank for sure go with at minimum of a 6 bulb t-5. Mind you that this will really only keep SPS at around the upper 1/4 of the tank. If you want a SPS dominant tank with SPS placement at all levels, then you will need to go with a MH or LED setup.

65's are very tall tanks and it is gonna take a good penatrating light to get to the bottom. If you can find a dual 150w MH fixture over a 250 go with that as the single 250's have a spotlight effect on a deeper tank.

I do love 65's I think they make the perfect reef tank.

Use the search feature and type in 65g there are a lot of folks on here that have them. See what they got and ask questions.

EDIT: plainrt is right so I'll replace the irrelevant nonsense I posted before with this:

250W Halides are proven to be well capable of supporting SPS corals. With a single bulb fixture like that on a three foot tank you will have a brighter area in the middle of the tank and dimmer areas towards the ends and can place corals according to their particular requirements.
