wamb0010
Title says it all but I have a JBJ 28 G LED and I have the tunze 9002 and I don't really like it because I feel like it is really touchy with the water level. It is either my collection cup gets nothing or my collection cup fills up in an hour but its not skimmate, its just good water. Anyone have any thoughts on a good upgrade. Also, if it were a hang on back, it would need to fit in the middle chamber. Appreciate any input. Thanks Link to comment
40+
Hi, I have a deltec MCE300 on a JBJ 28g, Love it, set it and forget about it. I did have to modify the plumbing a bit to make the syphon fit the back chambers on the 28g. (I posted pictures of the mods made here) http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...p;#entry3058161 I have mine drawing water from the chamber that was to house the heater (from the left, chamber 4) and returning into the right most chamber that houses one of the retun pumps. I still have the media basket in the centre chamber (Brad Urbaneks) filled with filter floss in the top and carbon in the middle. What I get is very little to be honest, but it is dark brown and about 30-40ml per week. As I said I run filter floss in the top chamber of the media basket and it's change is daily. The only down side to the MCE300 is you have to close the air valve in order to re-start after a power out. Link to comment

MarcG
Thanks - do you still like it? strongly considering it Yes I do....I have no real complaints about the skimmer and would purchase it again. I actually had it narrowed down between the Deltec MCE300 and the Aquamaxx HOB-1 that I ended up purchasing....I ended up getting the Aquamaxx because I saw it came back in stock at Marine Deopt and was the cheaper option. I figured I'd give it a try. Just be aware that you will need to cut the inlet and outlet pipes a bit so that you can open the hood easily. This isn't difficult but I am aware that some people are not willing to do this to a new purchase or are adverse to DIY. It will also need to be removed in order to remove an upgraded media basket if you have one....you might be able to pull the stock one out if you have that...haven't tried though. Something to consider. The performance has been good, I don't have to fiddle with it much, and it is relatively quiet compared to other HOBs which I have seen operate in person. Link to comment

Yeah im not worried about a little modification. My dremel needs the attention. How much clearance do I need in the back? Doesn't look like it is too bulky. sI actually have the tunze 9002 in my center chamber now so im not running a media basket but I fully intend to now if you say it works. Thet tunze is so sensitivte to my water levels that I hate it and have to mess with it every day. I jsut want somethign that I can set it and forget it and just empty the collection cup every now and then Link to comment

I jsut want somethign that I can set it and forget it and just empty the collection cup every now and then I just measured it....it hangs off the back of the tank a hair under 3.5".....wasn't a concern for me because my tank is in the corner. I have the inTank media basket and the skimmer support legs straddle either side of the media basket. Like I mentioned before, you do need to take the skimmer of in order to remove the media basket...the outlet dumps back into the top of the media basket and blocks removal. Swapping out filter floss isn't an issue though with the skimmer in place. BTW, water level won't be a concern with this as the skimmer. The only other change that I had to make was swap the heater from its normal place to the chamber where the stock JBJ skimmer would go. Link to comment

I went ahead and purchased the skimmer though it won't ship for 2-3 weeks. Now I need to go ahead and get the intank media basket. Are you running chaeto? Link to comment
