Supersizeme
I don't think it will melt unless you have it sitting directly on top of it, it will over time start to turn yellow if memory serves me. I am sure somebody will come along with better info. Hope this helps a little Link to comment

glazer
I seriously doubt that your bulbs will get hot enough to melt the acrylic. Light manufacturers have been putting acrylic splash shields on fluorescent fixtures for years and I've never seen one melt yet. Still using that same example, if it's acrylic it won't yellow. The splash shields you see on some of the AIO tanks that have dulled and yellowed are not acrylic... they are polycarbonate. Make sure if you do the top you use a beefy acrylic, not that paper thin stuff from the Depot. Thin acrylic will begin to sag on you... warm lights, constant weight of itself plus supporting the weight of your light. Go with something like a quarter inch thick and you should be fine. Other option would be to make a paper template of your tank and go to a glass shop and have them cut you the pieces for it. More times than not it works out cheaper than acrylic, even with them cutting it. Steve Link to comment
