40 breeder Water Changes

Just wanted to get everyone's opinion on how they perform water changes on their 40 breeder tanks. I'm looking to make the process more efficient. Currently I do two 5 gallon water changes a week on my 40 breeder and use a 5 gallon bucket for my mixing. I would like to do 10 gallons at a time.

How many gallons do you do?

What type of container do you use?

How often do you perform water changes?

Im doing 5 gal per week in out of the bucket. Would like to do 10gal at a time but dont have alot of room for 2 5 gal buckets to get water ready. I usually try to mix 3-4 days ahead of time. Still working on the best and most efficient way for me to do them.

Good luck ill be watching this

I am in the same boat as you. I'm going to switch over to the ESV salt mix. It will cut down on the mixing time, since it's ready to use about an hour after mixing compared to a day. This would allow me to do 10 gallons on the same day using just one bucket.

there is a difference between 1x 10g waterchange vs 2 x 5g waterchanges.

The 2x5g is less efficient since on the second change you are actually removing some of the new water you just added.

32 gallon Brute trash can, fill with RO/DI water, mix salt, pump 10 gallons out of sump to drain, pump 10 gallons into sump from Brute can. Usually once a week.

For sure but it's also less stressful on the tank. I know that there is apparently no difference if you get your parameters right but there is always going to be SOME change during a water change. I don't like doing huge changes (10g >> 25% when you account for rocks etc without a sump) because I've had issues before. I think 2x5g changes is still a very effective way of changing water and it's not too difficult to swing it.

I know lots of people just do full 5 gallon bucket changes because of how easy they are.
