You could try pointing a power head in its direction. Nems don't usually like that and will release their foot to move. Link to comment
JTEreefers
It is best to let it come out on its own, but if you must remove it, press your fingernail down on to the pot and softly slide it to the base of the foot, then put a constant pressure on the foot and it will eventually give you a little ground, keep the pressure on the foot and it will eventually release. Again, the best thing to do would be put the pot in your tank and let it crawl out, if you damage the foot, they can get an infection and rot away. GL, and how about pictures? Link to comment
chrisjj625
Any way to encourage it to come out on it's own? Link to comment
GiantBen
I've heard that putting ice on the foot will cause it to release, but have no experience with this. IMO, if you put the pot in your tank, it will probably move on its own. Maybe put it upside down in a high flow area? Link to comment
JTEreefers
I have over 40 and have never had trouble moving them the way I described, but if you just got it in a shipment, just let it come out on it's own. If you put the pot in your tank it should be out by tomorrow morning. If you put it in too high flow, it could rip it and cause an infection. Link to comment
Mustang Boy
if it is in a pot that you can move i would change the angle of the pot so that the top opening is facing downwards some so that less light can get to the anemone which will encourage it to come out and find a spot with better lighting Link to comment

chrisjj625
I know I am being impatient, but still in the pot upside down this morning. How long should this process take?? roughly? Link to comment

Urchinhead
Put an ice cube against its foot. It will let go. It will take some time (minutes) though so be patient. Link to comment

Now I can see the nem through the hole in the bottom of the pot still not making his way out what the hell buddy come on get outta there. just remember they need light to survive so it will move to get to more light so it will be happier, just stop watching the tank every minute and go about your day and wait till tomorrow to check on him again Link to comment
chrisjj625
I know its just killing me lol I want to see what it looks like under the LEDs ooooo cant wait get outta the pot dang it. Link to comment
Reef Goddess
Maxi minis can be rather stubborn to move when they are in a happy spot and shells/pots = happy spot. I guess sinking the clay pot into your sandbed and just letting it open over the pot aren't an option? If you place the pot up at the top of your tank and maybe tilt the pot a bit, that may encourage it to move. Maxis don't like very high light or at least not high, direct light. But if I were you, you might rethink working with the pot if its not huge, cause if you get the nem out of your pot its probably going to slink off to your live rock. Maxis are very sneaky and like to go where you don't want them to go. I have a couple beauties in my live rock and if I ever want to sell them in the future, I will need a hammer and chisel. chrisjj625
the pot is just an eye sore and theres no getting around it. My tank is so small a 29 biocube so any size pot looks big. I mean this thing is going to need light eventually right. going on day 2 with it upside down getting no light. Link to comment
Urchinhead
That isn't going to get it to move anytime soon. Use the ice cube and do it so the animal is out of the water at the time. Link to comment
Daleo
Is breaking the pot an option? I had a mini mini attached to a turbo shell, so i crushed the shell and attached the piece of shell the anemone was attached to, to the rock. Link to comment
chrisjj625
so you want me to pull the pot out of the water and put and icecube on the back of the pot until the nem falls into the water out of the pot? Link to comment
Daleo
For that method you put the icecube directly on the base/foot of the anemone. Link to comment
chrisjj625
I cant get to the foot. Link to comment
Daleo
If it is on a clay pot, then you should be able to place the icecube on the side of the foot no matter where it is... Link to comment
chrisjj625
it is in a clay pot not on it. Link to comment
chrisjj625
anyone else weigh in to whether this is a good idea? Link to comment
Phyto4life
Just got 6 of them in my 29G and find that getting them to release is fairly easy ,just a little tricky at first. imo I would grab a chisel and hammer if you are uncomfortable forcing it off. or you can just treat it like a strong turbo snail and get your finger nail under it while slowly prying it off, sliding your finger forward and under it's base. so far I had one do a 360 degree 12" move just from playing with the flow.
