Anyone Familiar With This Ocellaris Morph?

I would like to know if anyone knows anything about this Ocellaris morph. They aren't Black Ocellaris and they aren't Onyx. I know they're some sort of Ocellaris because they have 11 dorsal spines and their eyes are darker than Percs' eyes are. If anyone knows anything about clownfish that look like this then it would be greatly appreciated. Also, Sanjay looked at their pictures and it was confirmed they aren't Sanjay Black Photons.

where did you but them?

I got them from a store in Northern California. The store is more quantity over quality if you know what I mean, but they still have great quality. These were labeled as Ocellaris.

WTF why did you BUT your fish :haha::naughtydance::haha::naughtydance::haha::naughtydance::haha::naughtydance:

Did you get but and butt confused? :P

why do you think they arent black O's? how big are they?

Because Black Ocellaris' coloration starts as orange, then turns brown, and then black. With these, they started orange, and the black started working it's way around the body starting from the black on the middle stripes. Plus I have a spawning pair of Black Ocellaris and they just aren't the same.

When I got them they were less than 1/4", but now the female is 1.25" and the male is about .75".

iono man I've had many pairs of black O that look just like that, especially in the juvenile stage. your pictures show obvious darkening of orange pigments

I'm pretty sure they aren't Black Ocellaris. This is how Black Ocellaris mature...

On mine the black spread from the stripes, they didn't turn brown and then black.

and ive told you ive had black ocellaris strains that had the same coloration as yours and had either passed the chocolate phase or didnt have it at all. it would be nice for you if it were something different but with anything in this hobby, high probability that they're just plain O's. Orange is diet dependent and theres enough variation in how fishes develop their colors.

You can believe whatever you want but the simplest explanation is a black ocellaris.

My LFS has one of these. Awesome looking fish. But they won't sell it haha.

I have seen a few of these, and I honestly think they were the offspring of a reg. ocellaris and a b/w ocellaris.

If they turn out to be Black Ocellaris (which I personally don't believe they will) then I will probably sell them as a pair to make an ugly penny and then I'll use it towards a pair of picassos.

I was thinking they were a morph between a Black and traditional Ocellaris too. The store I got them from had a full-grown pair that looked similar in a BioCube at the front of the store. They might have been Onyx Percs, but I'll have to check the eyes next time I go into the store. :)

I like to show them i care....

It just seems like a black ocellaris whose black didn't fully come in. I doubt it's a "different morph" but if the trait shows in both the male and the female, then some selective breeding could make it more prominent. If it proves to be a heritable trait, it could really catch on, and you might call it a morph.

The trait is evident in both clowns I suppose. The female's black hasn't fully come in because she is growing faster. They were with a large group of their siblings (a few months old, less than 1/4"), so I'm assuming they were selectively bred by some breeder.

They exist. They are called Mocha Clowns. IMO there is a 50/50 chance of BnW and Mocha. You won't know until they mature...

Nope never heard of it... but thanks for the new LFS! I'll go there after Christmas.

See the resemblance?

(My male clownfish has an orange chest that you can't see...)

Thank you for giving me the actual name of what I have. :happydance:

they are just black occ. most people think that the black and white occ is all black. only the darwins are all black and white. black and white usually have the orange around the mouth or belly or around the fins and not turn all black into maturity. like others said before, it could have been bred that way, diet or whatever to make the orange stay more like that. beautiful clowns none the less.

Great looking fish, that are what most adult s'mores end up looking like. See here:

Definately the product of an orange X black ocellaris.

To all of you who said they're Black Ocellaris, you're right. I'm sorry. :(

Haha just kidding!

Matt Carberry from Sustainable Aquatics identified them as "SA Fancy" Ocellaris. ;)
