Erics5.5
I have a lot of this stuff, it's very porous basalt. I'm going to do a rockwall on the back of my 10, and was going to use a rock saw to cut these basically in half, making it easier to epoxy to the plexi I'm using and take up less room (thanks Professor for the sweet inspiration!). Question is, if I use this, do you think it's safe? There's a lot of differing opinions on this... It's not "lava" rock, it's a little heavier, but I've put it in a reef before, just not on a scale this small. I'm going to use true live rock for seeding, and for a little scaping on the sand bed (which will be white sand, to contrast with this wall), but the sand bed will be mostly open. Thoughts everyone? FWIW, there are no deposits on the rock, it's just plain old basalt. There will probably be close to 10 pounds of it in here when the wall is complete. I have alotted 2 weeks to curing time for epoxy and silicone. Thanks all! Link to comment
Aelvion
Generally basalt is fine but you dont say were you are sourcing this from? Really depends on where its from and what its been exposed to. (what it might possibly leach into your water column) Link to comment

I went ahead and ordered something I know for a fact is safe, some of the dry rock from an online provider. Got my 10 pounds last night and tonight the trimming and placing starts! Link to comment
FishStrings
Find flat sheets of fiji rock and aqua glue them together. In a month you wont even know you glued them together. Link to comment
