Background

So after having this for about a year now I'm starting to get tired of the height of the tank and how difficult it is to clean. After seeing some members ADA 60-F tanks, I decided I'd want to do that same route. Since I already have two PAR38 bulbs I figured I would use those for lighting but I would have to do a DIY fixture. I'd also use the equipment I have in my current tank for the time being until I can save up for some better equipment to get that clean look. Here's some SketchUp drawings of what I have in mind for the light fixture and tank:

Thanks guys!!!

And the fts is coming I'm still messing around with the scape some so...

The live rock from my old tank looks kind of big in this one so it's a little challenging getting the look I was originally going for but I'll try and get something up soon :D

I am thinking about starting the exact same tank and also have 2 par 38 sitting around. What color/optics did you go with and how are they working? Thanks

Both of my PAR38's are 60 degree optics but one is the 12k and one is 20k. It kind of creates a cool effect with one half of the tank being more blue than the other. I've had the 12k bulb for awhile now and its provided awesome growth with all my corals but I just setup the 20k one this week so I can't really comment on that one yet. With the dual setup there's great coverage since the light overlaps in the middle of the tank though.

Sounds awesome I actually have a 12k and 20k which is pretty funny. I am pretty sure I want to set up the tank with the rocks hanging out of the water and do mostly inverts

Yeah I'm digging the look of it right now so hopefully you'll feel the same way. But that sounds like a great setup, I'm trying to focus on sps now even though I have a lot of other types of coral from the previous tank.

looks great cant wait to see some more pics.

btw my brother drives a mkv r and I have a '08 gli. Both flashed/dumped the whole works. I gotta admit the dsg is not as fun as my manual...but launch control is fun :D

FTS?

here it is...

I have two heaters in there right now because the heater from my old tank wasn't keeping the temps high enough so I'm keeping both in there until I can get an inline heater. Also waiting on the lily pipes so I have to put up with the green eheim ones for now <_<

I'm also considering getting rid of one of the pieces of live rock because I feel like its just too much. Feel free to let me know what you guys think

Thanks!! Nice to know there's other nano-reefers out there that are into vw's. I used to have a jetta with the euro tails, blacked-out grill, etc. and always wanted a gli but I went straight for the .:R. And yeah launch control is a blast but I have a hard time using it at home here in Northern Virginia. Down at college in Blacksburg is another story though

12k is on the right am i correct?

Yeah it's on the right. It's slightly more noticeable in person but not too much. The 12k just looks more natural imo.

Yeah fts looks great. Would love to see a shot from further back showing the lighting/stand. ADA tanks are sweet I wish I still had my little 30cm cube still running but college got in the way :P

Thanks!! After seeing all the great ADA tanks on this site I decided I wanted one myself :D

But that's funny because I'm actually headed back to college this Saturday. My stand right now is kind of a mess but I bought a new one today and I'll set it up when I get back to school. Then maybe I'll take some shots of the whole setup haha
