TMG
Hi everybody, I'm new to this forum but have had a nano reef for about 18 months now. It measures 24"x12"x12" which gives approximately 14G. I'm Danish so I usually don't do inches and gallons but cm and liters. I currently have 3X24W T5 bulbs over my setup and it works brilliantly, but recently I have considered the opportunities of getting LED's to light my tank instead. There are not many danish DIY LED people, so thought I'd ask here. I don't know a lot about the bulbs used in my setup as they are no-name, but one is 10.000K and the two other bulbs are 20.000K -don't know the lumen. I have read a lot of articles on the Internet on what you need to build your own lamp, but I still haven't found an article that says, how many LED's you need to replace your existing light. My tank is quite uncommon I guess, as it is not cubic like many other of your tanks, but it's originally meant for freshwater. I WANT to change the light to LED's as it would cost me some money on electricity but mostly because of the shimming effect and the superior light compared to T5. So my real questions is how many high power LED's will I need to replace my current light and how would you guys set it up? I am really hoping to get some fulfilling answers since I'm starting from scratch. Thanks in advance, Tobias. Link to comment
FishOnTheBrainCoral
Here is a thread to the LED build I did. Also check the LED stickies under lighting. Its currently over a 24X12X8 and I have to keep it turned down to keep thing from bleaching out. It is about 12" over the top.. here.. Link to comment
