Pico Tank Build 5.5 with Boost LED... Need Opinions

So I'm in the process of building a 5.5 pico for my Dad for xmas. So far the project has been running smoothly, I've had the majority of the things used laying around the house. So here is what I got going on thus far...

 

5.5 gallon tank w/slide top (adding a piece of plexiglass and removed screen)

HOB Top Fin 60 filter (with fuge mod)

heater

1 Boostled 4 blue 1 white 60 optics (mounted to a very sturdy desktop lamp that I modified)

 

 

So far I have 2 main issues I'm trying to figure out which way to go on.

 

1. I need to decide how to run my fuge light. I have 3 ideas.

 

The first would be to use underwater lights like these( http://www.discount-pumps.biz/pond-lights.htm ) which I would prefer to do because it looks clean and seems to work well in my BC29. Although I'm worried about possible heat issues, even though I seem to have not with my BC.

 

The second idea was to cut the top of my filter cover and put plexiglass squares on either side above the cheato and use the clip on led light pictured below. Although I have no idea what this light is rated and not sure if its 5500k or whatever its supposed to be for cheato.

 

The 3rd idea is... I was wondering if I left the top of the filter off all together if I would get enough spill over for the cheato? Although, this looks that clean and would prefer to keep it on, maybe if I used the plastic squares with the spill over, if the spill over idea would even work.

 

 

My next query is, I'd like to make an diy ato. I have an old whisper aerator that I would like to use. Although it's not battery powered. I figured I could splice the wires any how and hook it up to the float. Only problem is I'm not sure if I can find room for the float with the bulky heater I have. (which Im sure i can just submerge any way and put any where)

 

can anyone tell me how big those float switches are in diameter?

btw... the filter floss outside of the screen is supposed to be simulating cheato

iphone 3gs does this picture no justice... I love the blue and shimmer effect which I'm not used to on my NEP. I would love to invest in more of these. To bad you guys don't sell them in bulk deals. Like packages of 2,4,6, and 8 or something, saving a little money with the more bulk you buy. Boostled costco style? lol jk

I appreciate all the nice replies, although I was hoping to get a little more back and forth here. I mean I've pretty much decided on what I'm gonna do, I was just hoping for some collective criticism. Any way, I guess I'll post more pictures when the project is done so this one sided thread looks some what complete haha.
