seriousreefer911
Good pm everyone! since my old 9.9 gallon reef tank( ) was already sold. i cant keep my hands dry, hehe, so here is my new pico project! i will add a 3x 3w high power LED light next week. this is planned to be a sps dominated setup. i will also try to incorporate brandon's idea of sealing the top tank. this is apporximately a 1/2 gallon tank. this has a built in fuge at the side. with cheato. and a powerhead hidden in order to help the tank's circulation. I also used some mb7 to jumpstart the cycle. here are some pics. ] hope you guys enjoy it! still cycling! Link to comment
Mr. Microscope
Cool. What kind of salt will you be using? Are you planning to dose with the SPS? Link to comment
reef2.5
Sweet set up. Don't see an a.t.o. though any plans for that? Link to comment
seriousreefer911
mr. microscope- thanks! i used natural sea water. because of the massive water changes( i think that nsw is the best way to go). i also plan to dose 2 part solution if nsw wont be able to keep the levels perfect. reef 2.5- thanks too! uhm i have an ato but ill be sealing this system so i think it wont be necessary to be honest the black acrylic here is very dirty( just removed the brown cover hehe) , and i got the idea of the rockscape from chingchai's 1000 gallon sps tank.hahahah. i hope that this will be a successful set up. so far here are my corals that are in line for the tank. superman monti cap chili monti cap red millepora blue acropora purple humilis Link to comment

brandon429
hey man nice to meet you. Evan thats mad travels lucky you man gets to see coralz in person to seal it, all I did was put a thick, huge bead of silicone on the lid part (glass not acrylic, it warps but if thats all you have then use it) and a thick bead of silicone on the tank lip where I want it sealed, press the two together and let it dry. then, with one fell swoop, use a razor blade to cut around the middle of your silicone seal so that when the two separate, there is a perfect mate when they are pressed back together. the weight of your canopy or light system can press down on the lid to hold it in place! There are zero sealed tanks worldwide (in all the forums I travel) as mine has been sold years ago and Ive only stuck with the vases. so now you w have the only one better keep it going and give us pics! B dont forget to find a way to leave the refugium lit during the night phase of the front reef, thats ideal because its pumping oxygen for dark parts of the tank still consuming it without pumping it. if you can't counterlight it no big deal, just break open the seal occasionally to feed it or something and it'll refresh out the air. sealed tanks can be refreshed from time to time and still have no topoff requirements also, if you ever get salt creep around your seal even with a nice build on it, just lower the water line. saltwater can wick into unbelievably tight clearances but a lowered water line will stop that, you have to keep the natural curve of the water towards the wall of the tank (meniscus) lower than the seal. it'll let you know in two weeks what the right water level for the tank is... It was one of the most powerful storm systems EVER recorded...it just hit a fairly unpopulated area on northern Luzon. I do not keep a tank out there...I am there every few months but not enough to baby a tank. Our place is in Ayala Alabang...good guess. We should get together for lunch some time...will be there in Jan and Feb AT LEAST. PM me and let's talk! Link to comment
