JakeF150
Do you dosing Lugols solution in your tank?? I think 1 drop is too much for 29 biocube for daily ? NO I HAVENT DOSE yet but i have read some interested info about it to help corals color up and growth blah blah.. Thanks! Jake Link to comment
cptbjorn
one drop of lugols per day will likely build up to greatly elevated levels over time depending on your water change schedule. that's too much, one drop a week maybe. the only way to determine how much iodine to add is to get an iodine test kit. seabass
What does your iodine test read? That's mostly rhetorical as I suspect that you are not testing for iodine. It's most likely that your tank is fine without dosing any as water changes are usually enough to compensate for consumption. Dosing seems not to cause any problems for awhile, but it eventually builds up in the water and can become harmful. I feel that it's best to rely on water changes for proper/safe iodine levels. Lawnman
I dose 1 or 2 drops of lugols if I see my cleaner shrimps have not molted in over a month. That is the only reason. Link to comment

brandon429
man I would never add that to a reef tank just my opinion. Only because not adding any produces a great tank too. I have used cyclopeeze as the major diet feed and it kills two gobies with one stone. Link to comment
Captain Billy
1 drop per 25 gallons weekly works very well. man I would never add that to a reef tank just my opinion. I'm not sure why you wouldn't because it's widely known that it's a good supplement with multipile uses. Link to comment

AZDesertRat
Unless you are testing for it on a regular basis and know for sure you have a demand for it then don't dose it. Lugol's is very easy to overdose as it is very concentrated compared to regular iodine solutions. Link to comment

brandon429
There are lots of things we can add or not and it w run. I too used to use iodide and it did cause marked coral extension, but I also found the tank worked as well free of it as well so why use it other than for personal comfort. In keeping a coral banded shrimp and a boxer crab alive in a one gallon tank for over 40 months its a sound reason to draw that cyclopeeze is loaded with I in one or more forms. Its the only way that molting can be supported like it is. that sold me on not dosing it but simply adding a feed containing it to save money and add the bare minimum to a reef to make it run long term. there are also sps coloration control techniques (zeovit) for ex that uses I in some oxidized form to affect color change or support in low nutrient systems housing sps, thats legit use. I just wanted to add that unless a highly technical system approach is being used its not needed for success but using it is fine for experimentation, as we can see from your posts that continual use below the toxic threshold is not harmful.
