Weird question but i am considering downgrading and i was wondering what would be the smallest size tank that could effectively utilize an mp40w es, say on half power.

thanks

Running low power (1000gph) on a 40B would give you a turnover of 25. I don't think you'd want to downgrade much beyond that. Ecotech states the pump is for tanks 50-500+.

40 breeder would work great for that at half power. Anything smaller will create a sand storm.

Hax. jk. I have a 1050 and the 740? Koralias on a ocean pulse duo. No sand storms, although you need to play around with the placement of them.

not sure the smallest but i have one on a 40 breeder around 75% RCM. No sand storms.

I'm using an MP40 ES on a 25g cube at 80% (plus a modded Tunze nanostream), but my circumstances are a bit different. I have seagrasses that cover the entire substrate, so sandstorms are a non-issue. I would say anything smaller than my tank would be impractical, if anything, due to the size of the wet-side mount/impeller assembly. As far as being enough/too much flow, that is too dependent on many factors.
