Need help finding a par 30 fixture?

Ok everyone I'm going to take the LED plunge on my 5.5G Pico and I've decided to do a par 30- 4 blue 1white with 60 degree optics...the only problem I'm having is finding a fixture or lamp holder to put it in. I've tried doing some searches and even looked at home depot's site but I'm not really finding what I'm looking for. I would like something of a clamp type...help with this would be welcome! Please post some options :)

You may not see anything on the sites, but a trip to HD / Lowes / Office Depot....?

Your gonna find something.

Would be cool to see pics of peoples PAR bulb "holders" however ...lol

When I was looking into setting one up on my tank I had a very hard time at home depot and lowes. All the fixtures they had run those new CFL dual pronged bulbs and low wattage energy efficient bulbs. After a couple weeks of searching I decided to go back to MH.

There is an expensive, yet very nice, option in the Neo Arm fixture. Hope this helps.

i got one of those... used a threaded 90 degree connector and a couple pieces of pipe... going to spray paint it all black this weekend.

The only problem with those is that you have to make your own cable and switch. I'm assuming the op isn't going to want to do that because he's buying a par30 bulb, which probably means he doesn't want to solder anything (otherwise he'd just make his own I think).

I found these outdoor clamp lights at both home depot and Lowe's for $5. They're not the prettiest things in the world, but they do the job.

There's also this common clip-on light for $10 at both HD and Lowe's but beware that you have somewhere to clip it on, it will not be tall enough to light your tank from the top if it's clipped onto something as low as the bottom of your tank.

Edit: I did a DIY LED build for my 5.5 gallon and I'm very happy with it (check my sig). You could build something similar for $60 if you had 2-3 weeks to wait for chinese parts.

step 1: buy two prong extension cord

step 2: cut end off

step 3: use connector to connect bulb base to extension cord

step 4: plug into automatic timer

step 5: profit.

connector example:

I think this is a can type and they said not to use this...I have found all types of can type holder but basically just need the socket...and yes I'm not soldering stuff lol..

Check out the 12"cube thread on my sig. I have a par 30 light in a wal-mart clamp on fixture that cost less than 10 bucks. They say not to run these lights covered but the fixture itself has a vented steel top that alows the heat to vent and remain cool to the touch.

Walmart has a clamp on light for like 7 or 8 bucks. It comes in black and I use with a boost par30. Looks real nice.

Most likely the very same item I'm using, not too bad and looks pretty sleek.

He shouldn't need to solder anything nor does he need wire nuts. It should be a two or three (I can't remember if there is ground or not) screw terminal. A standard screwdriver and a replacement electrical cord with switch (or without if he uses a timer) and he is in business.

what did you use to attach the vertical pvc pipe so that it stands up on its own?

i just used some conduit brackets to attach it to the back of the stand.... one held it up just fine, but i used 3 just in case.

That's what I thought it looked like. Nice craftmenship, looks pimp over the tank man, good job.
