awpong
I've had my torch coral for the past 3 months and he's been super happy. He was always open up, with his huge tentacles extending out approx 5-6 inches. When he was happy! However, about 2 weeks ago I decided to re-arrange the current in my tank to better suit my leather's preferences (he has been really droopy ever since I got him; till this day he is still droopy!). Since then, I haven't been able to please my torch. I've moved him around to different locations, trying to shield him from strong currents, but he never really opened up. After changing currents. A few days ago I moved him again, but I think I made it even worse. He kept falling over in his new location, so I burrowed the base of his exoskeleton into the sand. Unfortunately I think I was a little too "hands on," and may have pinched part of his flesh. Since then, he has hardly opened at all, and about half of his tentacles are flat (not inflated at all)! He's still alive; he moves his tentacles in and out of his base... but not far. I'm just going to leave him alone for a while to see if he recovers... Hopefully he does! Is there anything that I could do to help him? Also, I don't know if this is related, I only noticed because all I'm staring at now is the exoskeleton, but he has all sorts of organisms growing on his skeleton. I've seen a few tunicates, a snail that has borrowed into the skeleton (only 2 antennae are visible), and a few feather dusters. Their presence wouldn't be bothering him would they? My unhappy torch :'( You can see a weird green feather duster in this picture, as well as a few tunicates and other random crap. Link to comment
doctaq
those little dealies probably grew after the recession , it would probably be a good time to check some parameters Link to comment

Trolldoll
leathers pissed him off. I'd just give it some time in the new spot. Link to comment
awpong
How much time should I expect? He hasn't been himself for the past few weeks, and has been really bad (only extending tentacles ~1 inch, and the tentacles are, for the most part, deflated) for the past 3 days. Link to comment
shiver905
mine has his pissed off days, But dosent last more then a few hours, How long are the lights on for? mine has his pissed off days, But dosent last more then a few hours, How long are the lights on for? I also hear leathers can foil the water if they think an agressive coral is around. Link to comment
TheWAND
maybe it isn't getting enough flow? don't blast it but give it some random gentle flow. could also be chemical warfare on the leather's behalf. i had my torches close up like that for two reasons: too much flow and too little flow. to mee it seems you have to find a happy medium for them. awpong
Lights are on for 12 hours a day, and the leather and torch are on opposite sides of the tank. I only placed them near each other once (within 6 inches). Granted that was around the time my torch began to act a little weird, I am blaming that on the increased current near him (that's why the leather was moved near him). I have done 2-3 water changes since that time, and ever since, the two have been opposite sides of the tank from each other. I know that the leather can release chemicals that can agitate LPS, but in my opinion, it's not the case in this scenario. Link to comment

He was happy for the first 2 months in my tank, and then started to look like crap after I changed the flows to try and better suit my leather. I have tried everything to reproduce the original currents that the torch loved before, but he hasn't shown any signs of improvement. I know that mine prefers very minimal current. My main concern is that I may have been a little "too rough" with him. As I stated, although he wasn't fully expanding after I changed the currents, he didn't get the deflated tentacles until after I dug his base into the sand. I feared I might have been a little rough when I first did it, because my fingers were slimy after moving him. I'm just curious if anyone else has ever had a similar situation, and if so, did the torch recover? how long did it take? If no one has had a similar experience, do y'all believe in your expert opinion, that he should just be left alone? Will he recover after some X amount of time? Link to comment
awpong
Bump. I don't know if he's going to make it... a few of his tentacles are hanging off him by a strand of flesh.... and part of his flesh has retreated from around the exoskeleton :'( Link to comment
awpong
Yea I think he's dead. I'm pretty sure I accidentally rubbed off his slime coat, and he ended up stinging himself. Most of his flesh has just disappeared :'(... I guess I should throw him away and do a water change? Link to comment
