=======

We started up a little 3 gallon tank to keep my daughters beach finds in, and of course I have ended up addicted. I picked up some tanks at the $1/gallon petco sale a few weeks ago and am starting up a 40 breeder.

Not much going on yet. Got a used stand from the LFS, filled it up, and transferred our crammed 3 gallon into the 40 gallon abyss.

Have a 20 long in the stand for a sump. Planning on building a coast to coast overflow this weekend and adding the baffles to the 20 to get the fuge going. For lighting I'm probably going to go with a 4 bulb T5HO setup for now, and move to LEDs in the future when I have time to build the fixture.

Just order 50 pounds of live rock, hopefully will be here some time next week.

I looked at a bunch of vendors recommended on here, and decided to go with http://www.gulf-view.com

I am in Florida so the shipping should be cheap and fast. Hopefully won't see too much die off bringing it into the tank.

Got my rock today. Packaging was good. Thick black plastic wrapped in thick clear bag, stuffed inside styrofoam box, inside cardboard box. Rocks look pretty good for the money. Not as good as the $8/lb fiji rock I moved from my 3 gallon, but hey it was only $2-3 a lb.

Stopped by another LFS that I haven't been to before... WOW!! They have an awesome selection of corals. I picked up a frogspawn frag and a couple heads of some yellow tipped zoas.

Frogspawn sitting on my mini frag shelf (aka magfloat)

DIY Overflow is in and gulping along, literally :(. The baffles I put in my sump are holding up pretty well too, only a couple tiny leaks definitely nothing to worry about.

I've got about 55-60lbs.

You should have a purty new light tomorrow. :)

You do realize that you may lose some of those corals as the rock cycles, right?

You might want to read up on Soft Cycling, it would give your current frags a fighting chance.

Tank starting to clear up from adding sand... I hate this part.

My rockwork ended up almost exactly like I had planned it!

post-53728-1279857233_thumb.jpg

I wanted to keep my rock from the 3 gallon as it was to pay hommage to the tank that started this obsession.

post-53728-1279857269_thumb.jpg

I plan on getting a clam or two in the future, so I wanted to incorporate a sand shelf for them so they can be off the tank floor and still have a place to call home.

post-53728-1279857274_thumb.jpg

I also want some open sandbed to let some GSP and similar corals go wild. Lastly I wanted to make sure I had an open diagonal across the tank for when I do start adding fish.

Now hurry up and clear up you stinking water :(

Water is slowly clearing up. Got some new shots today.

Water is almost cleared up. Got a couple peppermint shrimp to take care of the rest of the aiptasia that hitched in with the LR.

Also got a good shot of my newest zoa. Not sure what morph blowpops maybe?

Just scooped one of the new shrimp out of the sump, alive and well. Needless to say temporary grid is back on the overflow.

Water params have finally settled after the upgrade. Added my first fish today, a pair of false percs.

Let em float for a while, then drip acclimated before letting them loose. Definitely aren't shy. I fed the tank some brine shrimp. Everyone including the clowns were happy for a meal.

So it looks like I may be getting a MP40 tomorrow. I have tried for the last 2 weeks to get the flow in the tank the way I'd like it and haven't had much success. Don't think I'll have any problem getting the water to move when I get this sucker in there :)

Got the MP40 in and setup. WAYYYY Too much flow for my tank. Softies go flying if I crank it to 100%.

We had a 4 day weekend and went out of town. Setup a pet bottle ATO to keep my pump from burning up. Works, but need much larger volume.

I think my clowns are getting prepped to lay eggs. I've already been researching what is needed to raise their offspring if they do.

Picked up a couple SPS frags today.

Everything is growing like crazy. Will try to get pics tomorrow when all lights are on.
