pprice01
Just picked up the Aquafuge 2 PS and dreaming about what to put in it. I already have chaeto and was planning on maybe black live sand and other macro algaes for diversity and color. Then I thought, what about a dwarf seahorse? It wouldn't have to fight for food as the fuge should provide a constant source of pods and algae. Who knows, maybe it could work. Please let me know if I've lost my mind or just been reefing too long. Thanks. Link to comment
cheryl jordan
I myself do not think that will be enough food to sustain seahorses. I like the idea, but you might have problems with the temp being too high, and food issues. Just something to think about. Link to comment
Weetabix7
I agree that there def wouldn't be enough food to sustain one, you'd have to supplement it's food supply. Link to comment
pprice01
What would the temp need to be for it to thrive? Would it be possible to supplement the fuge with a specific food? Link to comment
cheryl jordan
Temp should be around 76 F, adding live food may work but you would have to add a lot frequently. I guess it all depends on how commited you are. Link to comment
DaneMarx
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying... If you put a seahorse IN your fuge, then its not a fuge anymore. A refugium provide shelter from predators. so if you add the predator its not a fuge anymore. Removing predators provides a place for the pods to reach nice high numbers and thus breed rapidly and export their bebbies to the DT. In summary. No, wouldnt work. Link to comment
lakshwadeep
Yes, it would just be another "display" tank rather than strictly a refugium. It would be better to set up a separate macroalgae tank for seahorses. Visit seahorse.org for more info on keeping seahorses. Link to comment
