GiantBen
It may be gone already. A mounted it on the piece of rock you see about a week ago. I had been running some stock PCs that were in need of change. A couple days the acintic light went out. The acan always seemed to not be as "tight" looking as other acans. I assumed it was my stock PC lighting. When it first started receding I thought it might have been tightening up, but now I see that it is on its way out. Any ideas? I am running 2x 50/50 PC bulbs in my BC29, so I doubt it is getting too much light. I did a WC yesterday, and do them every 7-12 days. My params are: Temp - 82.5 Ca Between 400 and 440 dKh 8-9 Ph 8.4 Salinity 1.024 Right now I am planning to just do small water changes every two days in case there is something making it mad. Any advise would be helpful. Thanks. Pic: Link to comment

GiantBen
not have it under PCs. you want t5s really. jmo Do you think that is the cause for a sudden down-turn? I got it as one large head and one small head several months ago. It was up to 7 heads until recently. Could having my bulbs getting old and then one being out completely for a couple days have caused this? Thanks for the T5 input. I was actually dragging my feet on replacing the PC bulbs because I was trying to hold out for the nanotuners BC29 T5 retro. I am trying to do a 3.36 DIY retro, which would help if too little light is the problem. I could also move it up in my tank of it is getting too little light. I got new bulbs in today. GiantBen
I forgot to mention, I rescaped recently, knocking out a rock that was overhanging the acan for a while. It is probably getting more direct light now, but I figured that it would never get too much light even from 3.36 PCs. This is part of the reason I thought the initial receding might just be the heads tightening up. Link to comment
blizzardscout2
It wouldnt be a problem of too much light, I suggest doing the retro soon if you want to save them. Try to feed them some mysis or something in the mean time. Link to comment
Weetabix7
You could try dipping it in either Coral Revive or lugol's Iodine. Coral Revive dip -2 cups tankwater -1 teaspoon Revive -3-5 mins -Rinse before returning to tank Lugol's Dip -1 cup tankwater -1 drop lugol's iodine -3-4 mins Link to comment
Markushka
+1 on the feeding. this may not be a sudden thing, it may be suddenly apparent but it could be the last leg after a long time in inferior light. was the acan ever higher in the tank? how long have you had it? Link to comment

I've had it for around 6 months I'd guess. It has gone from 2 heads to 7 in that time. It was higher in the tank maybe two months ago. I have target feed it mysis recently (a week ago) and it was eating. Some one esle has suggested putting it in the shade. Any thoughts on this? Link to comment
Weetabix7
Well if it was doing better and showing growth when it was higher in the tank before, maybe it does need more light. Link to comment
Degener8
2 months ago higher in the lighting and growing.. now lower and receeding.. and the suggestion was to put it in the shade>??? pop it off its current location and move it back up where it was.. when i was doing well and growing. I can't see hwo shading it is going to help when lowering it has brought on recession .... Link to comment

blizzardscout2
My acans looked near death at one point due to a peppermint wreaking havoc on it, and then a heat crash right after that, and now it has tripled in size in the last year (thanks to getting a metal halide Sunpod, and of course no heat issues). +1 on moving up in the tank. GiantBen
I'm not sure that lowering can be blamed. It had been on the sandbed for quite a while and eating and doing well, including sprouting another head. I got the 3.36 retro in, so I'll see how it responds (ideally this is equivalent to moving it up). I'm going to do a WC today too. Link to comment
Degener8
you said you were down one light right.. -1 light = less light this move it up.. or did you get that replaced? Link to comment
Dizzle21
i moved my 15 head of acan up 4'' and it all melted away in less than a week.. RIP Link to comment
GiantBen
Anyone ever heard the expression: "What a difference a day makes"? I got my 3.36 fixed up last night. I am running 2 50/50 bulbs and a 10k, because my other 50/50 showed up broken. Got home from running some errands and: Unbelievable. Thanks all for your help. For now, I am going to leave it on the sand bed. Link to comment
