Getting Over Ran With Mushrooms

Any ideas on how to kill red mushrooms? They're slowly but surely taking over my 75 gal. I've got lots of zoos growing across rocks so dismantling the rock structure would be a nearly impossible task. Joe's juice doesn't seem to do more than make them sick for a couple of days and they come right back. I've got to do something because they are beginning to overrun my zoo colonies and are getting pretty unsightly. Cutting them off a rock just doesn't work because you can't get all of it and it will start a new mushroom pretty quick. If I don't do something I will soon have a tank of nothing but mushrooms.

I think the best course of action is for you to pick out a rock that's absolutely covered with them, and send it to me. :D

Best thing to do that I've found so far is to cut them off the rock, as close to the rock as you can, syphon them out, and then kalk paste the remnants. That takes care of them pretty well. I have a purple plague that I'm trying to control right now with this method.

This is just a part of what I'm trying to deal with. I've wondered about some sulfuric acid in a syringe injected into the shroom.

Killing them should be the last resort. Do you have a dremel with a diamond blade attachment? Cut the rock apart, sell them and make a few bucks.

I hope my mushrooms will grow like that B) Of course I want a mushie filled tank. I agree that you should frag them for a little more pocket money.

This is exactly why I hate mushrooms...

Before setting up my latest tank I decided on three things I learned from past experience...

1) no xenia

2) no gsp

3) no mushrooms

haha anyway I would inject them like aiptasia or you can try dremeling them off I guess but that will kill your rockwork.

sell 10 for $15 per polyp thats $150....you can get pretty nice stuff with that money..sell them all and you can get a boatload of new frags and hope fully those new frags can take over your tank and you can sell those again lol

mushrooms are one of those things you dont let near your main rock structure.

Fully aware of that. My mushrooms were carry overs from my my original BC14. They were one of the first corals I got, and my first rookie mistake. They seemed to be under control in that tank, but since moving to the 30g cube, they have exploded again.

I can't get any of my mushroom to grow in my tank. I have 4 different kinds and although they are doing well I have yet to see a new one.

Maybe you could try adding more flow in that area. I have a lot in mine and I can't produce a mushroom.

Isn't it ironic that one man's weed is another man's $10 a polyp bill? If only I could sell some of the weeds in my back yard!

U R NUTS!!!! if you just kill them. Plenty of people will buy/trade them. It would be a waste and a disservice to the wild colonies if you just chucked them.
