Fuge or Carbon dosing (NP biopellets)

I only have room in my sump for one or the other. and the fuge would only hold about 3 gallons.

The tank is a 40 breeder.

I am not sure if you are really talking about Carbon dosing ( vodka, sugar, etc.).

Or using carbon in a bag or reactor and changing it monthly.

I would not carbon dose, unless you are an experienced reefer who has done a lot of research and had a great skimmer. Carbon dosing can easily kill your tank if done wrong.

well, which one would solve your problem?

right now my problem is algae growth. I have done Vodka carbon dosing before on my previous tank, so i am used to that. The method of carbon dosing i would be using on this however would be one of the solid granular carbon sources (WM ecobak, NP biopellets, ect) in addition to my BM NAC6A.

Im already leaning toward carbon dosing over the fuge as i dont think the amount of space i have for the fuge would be enough for it to do any good. However i wanted to get everyone's opinion before i made a decision.

My display already has halimida in it already fyi

p.s. when i refer to carbon dosing, i am referring to the addition of a carbon source for bacteria to use in addition to nitrate and po4, not the use of activated carbon (already have that going)

What kind of skimmer do you have? for carbon dosing you need a good skimmer.

The fuge will give you extra fauna but that size won't help you much with exporting nutrients.

currently i have a current fission recirculating skimmer (rated for 150, an "ok" skimmer)

but i will be getting a Bubble Magus NAC6A at the same time i start doing the carbon dosing

William,

Usually a refugium shares the same water as the display tank, so if you are carbon dosing the refugium, I would think you are also dosing the display tank.

Did you measure nitrates and phosphates. Do you really have a problem? Please remember, that using a phosban reactor is much safer than carbon dosing, so I would try that first. Also, cut back on feeding, etc.

The point, is that carbon dosing, should be a last resort measure...

I will have my pellets tomorow

moto826.... Did you get the WM Eco-BAK pellets? If so, where did you get them from? Keep us posted.
