I was just at the lfs and saw this cool looking thing (so i bought it), looks like a coral but neither did the owner or myself know what coral it is. If anyone knows what this is please let me know what kind of coral this is and some information about it please? Thanks, Patrick Link to comment

Austin
Can't find any care tips about these. Hi. Who bought a coral without knowing how to take care of it? patrickboro did! patrickboro you naughty boy! Now bend over so I can administer The Shocker. The thang is because it's a non-photosynthetic coral - well you've got to feed it. And you can't feed it fish food. It will likely need something along the lines of Coral Frenzy of Oyster Feast. These are prepared foods that included teeny weeny lil treats that NPS coralz, gorgonians, and other filter feeders need. Sounds like not too big of a deal right? WELL the thing is you usually have to feed these organisms often enough that the leftover food in the tank will eventually decay and become badness like nitrates. That's why smaller tanks aren't necessarily the best environments for NPS critters. Additionally, many (but not all) NPS corals aren't the biggest fans of mega-lighting (which for some reason I can't imagine being a problem with your setup) so they like to be lower down or shaded in your tank. Some, but not all. Conclusively, go out and get some special food for filter feeders/gorgonians. And keep a watchful eye on your tank parameters. Good luck! Cool coral! Link to comment
GiantBen
What did he charge you for it? Link to comment
patrickboro
Do you think reef roids are good for it? Also I paid $50 for it and it is about the size of 2-3 large fists. And I realized that I should have researched it before but I wanted it badly lol. By the way are these rare? Also I have a 75 gallon reef tank. So I took a look at it and the poylps are all out and it looks really nice, much better than at the store. Link to comment

bananahands
Wow! you bought it without knowing what it is? NEVER! And what kind of LFS sells something without knowing what it is? How'd he price it without knowing? I wouldn't go back there, ever. Link to comment

I once got a really nice Fungia for the price of a fuzzy mushroom($5). They had no idea lol. And in all honesty, I do not feel bad at all. It is their responsibility to know what they have and to educate their employees. Link to comment
krug1313
Actually the owner did say the name but didn't have info on it. I'm sure it will do fine in your tank. It was nice at the store and if looks better in your tank it's gorgeous. Reef Roids should be fine and keep it low in the tank. Brandon Link to comment
patrickboro
So im lost on what I should do. I really like it, but it seems like everyone is saying its very difficult to look after. I have myself a bunch of corals and anemones which have been thriving. I also have a flower pot coral which I have heard are difficult to look after and its been doing very well. So I am kinda at a lost.... Yeah Brandon, it looks much better now that its in my tank and looks better now than it did when i took the picture. Link to comment

But I do not feel like listening to my wife nag at me for slurpin down a chunk of mysid in her smoothie. Link to comment
