Ripsaw
I am in the middle of setting up my first 24 gal nano cube and all of the equipment has come in. Question: I bought a Koralia 2 for the display and a Maxi1200 to replace the stock return pump. The Koralia 2 is really big, much bigger than I anticipated. Is this too much flow when combined with the Maxi1200 return pump? I plan on keeping a variety of SPS and LPS corals, but I am worried that the Koralia 2 is going to be too much when combined with the maxijet1200. Since I am still yet to add rocks, sand and water I would like to sanity check my flow. Thoughts? Link to comment
seabass
720gph = 30 times turnover Koralia 2 = 600 gph MJ1200 = 295 - head loss The flow will be minimal for SPS. I wouldn't recommend anything less. A VorTech MP10 would give you more control (and would take less room in the display). Link to comment
coolwaters
ur going to have to use a good diffuser on that mj1200 cuz it will move sand around. Link to comment

I just replaced my powerheads with an MP10 Ecosmart and all I could say is WOW!!! A lot smaller imprint in my tank and 10x better flow and controlability. If you have the money that's the way I'd go, but if you don't I have my Koralia's for sale:) Link to comment

Seems to be doing fine. Isn't blowing sand around for me. 720gph = 30 times turnoverKoralia 2 = 600 gph MJ1200 = 295 - head loss The flow will be minimal for SPS. I wouldn't recommend anything less. Well, I have at least a couple of months of cycling and CUC before I need to worry about enough flow for SPS. I am going to save up for the MP10. Thanks for the insight. +1 I had 2-K-1's and a K-2 in my 24 gallon Aquapod and it was decent flow. I just replaced my powerheads with an MP10 Ecosmart and all I could say is WOW!!! I will be picking up an MP10 when it comes time as I don't feel like dropping another 200 on the tank if I don't need to. I just got water, rock and sand in the unit today so I got time to burn.
