Jruberti
Considering buying one of these off a local reefclub soon...but I don't know a lot about them. Need input likeee...how good is the skimmer? I plan on upgrading in the future, but It would be a few months before I could add it. How good is the lighting on the 130? its just x2 55w t5 (are the t5HO?) is this sufficient for good sps growth? And how is the heat on these tanks? Closed hood has me worried, as my open top biocube runs about 82 right now, but it had a MH on it. Just looking for any general info on these that you think may be important, as well as any reccomended DIY's and upgrades. Thanks! Link to comment
chrisinmd
I own one and I would the skimmer sucks the lights are only good if you want to keep sofites and some lps but other than that you will be disapoited I have changed just about every thing on my tank I now run a 10g sump/fuge under the tank I have changed the light out to a outer orbits 250w halide the tank is pretty but for what it cost and what its going to take to make it a great reef tank you could build your own system and save your self some Now this is just my .02 on my experice with the rsm 130 Link to comment
Mike Maddox
IME, the skimmer isn't too bad. The lights def aren't enough for SPS. I wouldn't buy one new, but if you can get a used one for pretty cheap it's likely worth it. Link to comment
Jruberti
The guy selling it is keeping sps ok, he just said keep them at the top of the tank =/ Could I remove the hood and add another light later on? Link to comment
chrisinmd
The light comes off easy with two pins on either side Link to comment
Jruberti
like would i be able to easily replace the entire light fixture like maybe get a tek light later on? also the price is 350 for it, is that reasonable for a used one? Link to comment
chrisinmd
350 isnt bad thats what i paid for mine the light is easy to remove like i said in my other post all you have to do is lift the door for the skimmer and there is 2 white pins you pull them and the whole top comes off the tank and thats just what i did with mine i upgraded to the outer orbits light now theres nothing i cant keep in the tank. If you do buy it when you get it home take the pumps out of it and make sure the shafts for the implers arn't rusty because when i bought mine they were i would say for the price go for it they make a pretty tank. EDIT: to make my post clearer Link to comment
Mike Maddox
I got one for free, and I'm upgrading the lights by added a few T-2 fixtures in between the stock PC lights, and mounting some LED strips as well. More info + pics to come. Link to comment
