Hi just recevied a new skimmer, and two powerheads. Any other suggestions for my next purchase? How long does it takes for the skimmer to catch some foam??

Don't buy anything else just yet. Find some good positions for your koralias that will provide nice opposing flow, and work on adjusting your skimmer for the next couple days (up to a week) until it starts spitting a fair amount of skimmate into the collection thing.

 

Do you have a sea apple in your tank by chance?

6 hour and no foam yet..is that normal during break in?

Did you just set up this tank? If so there may not be enough junk for the skimmer to pull anything.

Its been set up for 2 weeks have some LR and some livestock, I'm doing a soft cycle cause of the early introduction of livestock. Ammonia levels are less than .25 but nitrates and nitrites still a lil bit high.

 

PD: Should I use the skimmer on a container with curing LR since is doing nothing no the tank right now or is not going to help that much?

I want to say that the skimmer begun this morning to catch some foam its wet cause I have it in the lowest level just going to run it there for a few more days till it gets a lot of dirty stuff. Here is a pic of what arrived today new lights!! YEAH Finally!

a week to 2 weeks if its new to start really producing, the more your hands are in the tank the longer it will take. if you take the skimmer and run it in a bucket of water vinegar for a few hours it will start producing skimate almost immediately when returned to the tank.
