ry05coupe
I have been reading over the past three months about BTAs because I knew that I eventually wanted to have one. Well, soner than expected, a friend of mine told me he gott a few to many in from his shipment (he owns a small marine business) and said that I could pick one out and take it for $20. Around here the cheapest BTAs are $60 for greens and there are none that aren't bleached, so I made the mistake of buying something on impulse (I know I'm not the only one) and bought the healthiest looking out out of the whole shipment. It was still in the bag, attatched to the side. Some of the others were free floating but this guy looked great. So, I took him home and dripped acclimated for 4 hours, then gently set him in the middle of my live rock in a crevace, with an overhang right next to him. The LR piece that he is attatched to looks like a mishapen rocky doughnut on it's side (tall, not laying down). He is almost under it but his tentacles stretch out and look pretty good. I offered him a small silverside today and he took it quickly. My question is, Is it notmal for them to barely move when I put them in? He moved maybe 4" if that from where I put him, and is now just hanging out there. EVERYTHING I read said that they would move around, so it is kinda worrying me. He is extending normally though, accepting food, and not being harassed by my two idiot clowns. Can anyone give me some reassurance / suggestions? The params are as follows: Ammonia : 0 Nitrites: 0 Nitrates: 0 Phosphates: .25 (working to get them to 0) Salinity: 1.025 PH: 8.4 CA: 500 The tank has been running for nearly 3mo now. I know that is too early, but like I said, i madethe mistake of an impulse buy. Edit: Thought of some more stuff that might be useful. Today is only day 2 (well it is 2:30am, so day 3). I started dripping him at 5pm on tuesday and put him in the tank at 9pm. Also, I fed him on day 2. Link to comment
cheryl jordan
IME an anemone that moves around alot is not a good sign. The fact that you say it seems healthy and it sounds healthy I would say do not worry at this point. Enjoy Link to comment
GrandpaFeathers
Don't be concerned unless it starts showing unhealthy signs. Just because it CAN move doesn't mean that it will. Link to comment
gabe_j
sounds like you just put him in close to a spot he likes, he's extended and eating, what else is there in the life of a nem? Link to comment
spanko
They will move to find their sweet spot....light - flow......and then hunker in. Sounds like yours likes the spot it is in for now. Do you have the lighting that will support the animal long term? Link to comment

Do you have the lighting that will support the animal long term? Right now I have 6 x 39w T5s on there, and will be upgrading to MHs within the next month. The only thing weird about this spot is that it is almost at the bottom of the tank, deep in a crevace with rock up either side. I know he is getting light, but not that much light. Another thing I noticed is that after feeding him, my cleaner shrimp wouldnt leave him alone. I figured he was just being a cleaner shrimp, but about 11 hrs later when I got home at 1:30 am, I took out the flashlight and found the cleaner shrimp still bothering him. DO you guys think he is cleaning the nem, or trying to eat it? Link to comment
cheryl jordan
The lighting sounds fine. The anemone will pick a spot it likes for the time being. Cleaner shrimp is probably waiting to steal food, unfortuantely. Link to comment

sanchez
Just my .02 Don't let it fool you, it will pretend to love that spot, then when you put something in it will like that spot better and wander over I love my BTA, but it has special needs, there's a net in my tank acting as a wall between mushrooms/bta because after it sat in the same spot for a month, it decided the green shrooms looked comfy so it walked right over and plopped down next to them. Now it won't move even if I shoot powerheads at it.. jerk. Enjoy Link to comment

He gave me a scare yesterday after walking straight over my ric-rock (about 7 rics on it that have just started splitting), making then all either close or shrivel. They are fine again today though. Update: He is now in the top left hand corner behind one of my koralias. Kinda weird, but a lot of the threads I have read about people getting them have mentioned their BTAs doing the same thing. Hopefully hell come back down soon! Ill also try to get some pics soon, he is beautiful. Link to comment
Pickle010
I would be concerned about that and possibly move the power head away from him. If his tentacles get sucked into that koralia you are going to have a mess. Link to comment
