wowser
hi, I failed at keeping a hammer and a torch in my BC8. Learned a lot since and got my parameters near perfect but not sure I want to take on harder corals at the moment. What's the easiest coral a clown might host in? Link to comment

What's the easiest coral a clown might host in? maybe gsp.... its hard to determine kind of depends on the clown. Some host everything others wont touch anything. I have had torches, hammers, frogspawns, gsp, etc and none of my clowns ive had ever hosted anything. Link to comment
DaneMarx
xenia! My clowns are hosting my pulsing xenia and I love it. Pulsing xenia is bulletproof.... click the link in my sig for pics. Link to comment
JMAdams
They may or may not host what you want them to, but mine used to host a very large toadstool until I added a frogspawn. Toadstools are easy. Link to comment
MrIcky
I have one hosting in a toadstool as well. Took to it really fast. I have another that hosts in GSP but he doesn't seem that enthusiastic about it. A long time ago before I took a hiatus- I used to use clay flowerpots as a host to get clowns to breed. And I know that's not a coral, but my point is they'll host just about anything that won't kill them and they think offers some shelter to defend from. Link to comment
DaneMarx
lol. funny that! I initially gave mine a flowerpot - which they like very much. Then i grew some xenia on top of it and they've moved to the penthouse on top of their old crib ;-) livin large in the xenia Link to comment

wowser
Thanks everybody. I have a small pulsing xenia I got as a hitchhiker. It's gonna take a while to get to hosting size though! I also had a GSP (actually it was a dark purplish star polyp) but it died with the torch and hammer. Thought they were really hardy but it didn't make it. The matt started flaking off and now most of the rock it was on is covered in coraline. Don't GSPs have pretty short polyps? I can't see a clown tucking in one. Link to comment
villagefrags
try a Frogspawn coral (Euphyllia divisia) Clowns usually love to host in them Link to comment
DaneMarx
just a note about clowns hosting LPS - sometimes the clown is a bit too aggressive a host and will damage the coral by pushing the polyps against the calcium skeleton. This is usually only a problem with smaller LPS frags... Link to comment
chief15
+1 for pulsing xenia that's what mine loves. Link to comment
