?Black Sluggish Looking Snail?

Recommended Posts

Ok. In a trade I got these black almost leech or slug looking creatures. They are nocturnal and feel like they have a shell underneath there skin. So I'm guessing it is a snail. They are dark black and have some white spots. I belive them to eat algea. What are they??? Does it sound close to anything you know of?

Oh two of them are about half the size of your hand the other is about a quarter the size of your hand. I'll try and get a pick up but you know of anything like that?

Is it flat or rounded like an egg? If it's egg-shaped it could be a cowrie, their mantle covers the shell so you don't see much of it

HALF the size of your hand?? that is like 2-3 inches long!

careful handleing something you are not sure what it is. some of the stuff in our tanks can be pretty toxic.

I didn't know there were tropical species until now, but the cold water ones off of California get about a foot long.

may be a scutus, too. I have a massive one in my 65, and he/she's been in there for over a year.

Could also be a bubble-snail. They have an internal shell, and resemble slugs.
