fireFlies
I bought 1 'funny snail' at a lfs. Its a sand sifter and looks similar to a nassarius. One pic is of a standard nassarius i have and the yellow is the funny snail edit: did a little research.... turns out its a Babylonia Whelk. Which aparently is a predator. However, under all forums ive seen, everyone says they are completely reef safe except for clams... I have 1 clam now and am planning on getting 2 more... They are all going to be < 2.5-3 inches. A lotta people said it leaves everythign alone, except their clams misteriously died 2 weeks after adding them. I dont think 1 will kill a clam alone, but Im not taking a chance, its going back. gregowen420
i have 1, they sell as super tongan nassarius snails usually Link to comment
fireFlies
I researched super tonga and babalonian whelks are completely different. tongans have a rigid shell ,while babilonian whelk has smoorth shell. But coloring is similar. tongans are reef safe. babilonians are reef safe, BUT THEY WILL EAT CLAMS, especially ones less than 3inches Link to comment
wimby
I have one they called it a leopard nassarius snail. Comes out when I feed other then that I never see him. Link to comment
ajmckay
Why chance it? Many snails have very specific diets. In this case if a snail is a possible clam predator it would probably be a very effective one no matter what the size of the clam is. Good luck. Link to comment
