teksilver1200 Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Can anyone ID this red-burgundy macroalgae? It looks like Halymenia, but the form is somewhat similar to Feather Caulerpa. I'd like to know what kind of light/flow it needs.
johnmaloney Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 liveaquaria i think sells that algae, i am pretty sure. you can find an id there, and care requirements, nice looking macro
teksilver1200 Posted April 27, 2010 Author Posted April 27, 2010 Thanks. Yeah That's the one. The name Haliptilon is new to me... http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_di...&pcatid=664
johnmaloney Posted April 28, 2010 Posted April 28, 2010 I wonder if Haliptilon is Haliptilon outside of the hobby. I looked it up in my tax books, and it looks like a coralline algae. I can see yours is calcified, but it doesn't look like a coralline algae...or any of the species of Haliptilon in this book.... Oh well, so is the world of phycology. A bunch of scientists that care about cell structure rather than what it looks like in a fish tank...
