sublime1996525 Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Ok so I got some new pieces that were 50% off because the lfs is getting rid of there salt water stuff. One piece I bought because it had a few cool looking shrooms. Well I put it in the tank and there are 2 clam/oyster things? of some sort, some white fuzzy stuff (kinda looks like cotton), and a maroon anenoma? Please help me identify these!!! Can you see the dark maroon thing in the center of the pic? What is the white stuff and what is the shelled thing?
cheryl jordan Posted April 24, 2010 Posted April 24, 2010 Second pic the white is sponge, can not really see anything other than blurred mushrooms in the first. Sorry
sublime1996525 Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 Can u see the clam in the second pic? Amy ideas?
Jacobnano Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Just a HH clam. In the first pic, check out vermatid snails. They release this white stringy web to catch food.
sublime1996525 Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 What is a hh clam? I was thinking maybe a mollusk?
sublime1996525 Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 Lol oh duh. What are the odds of it's survival?
Jacobnano Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 It really depends. They hang out for a while, sometimes a long time, then just disappear.
sublime1996525 Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 better pic of maroon stuff. What is it?
NU2REEFIN Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 The maroon stuff is coraline algae, good stuff give it a few months and you will have it growing everywhere you'll even have to scrape the glass.
Justind823 Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 Wait hang on. The one with the green arrow looks more maroon to me than the coralline so I feel like that's what you are talking about. So, green arrow = cyano yellow arrow = coralline
NU2REEFIN Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 WOW, how did I miss that? Yeah Justin is right, that stuff is bad. You do not want that growin'. Sorry for the oversight.
sublime1996525 Posted April 25, 2010 Author Posted April 25, 2010 Wow thanks guys. I lean on you for advice and you lead me astray. Lol. I'm glad I scrapped the maroon stuff out then. Really appretiate the help:)
