LED question

I am wanting to supplement my lighting with some LEDs. I have a custom made hood with 4 18w bulbs over my 10gal. Two 10,000k and two 420nm actinic. I can't afford the mr16 LEDs or the Cree. So I was going to get some royal blue 5mm and 5mm cool white. I was thinking about putting LEDs in around the edge of the hood to supplement the CF. I don't want to hear it isn't a good idea, and I don't want to be told that I need metal halide or T5s. I am just looking for ideas on setup light combos, stuff like that. Other forums have just been a bunch of crap about how I CAN'T do it, I'm hoping I will get some awesome ideas from you nano guys! :D

I was even considering taking out two of my bulbs and run one 10,000k and one actinic. Then I was thinking about the deal on Ebay for 50 leds with resistors. 50 blues and 50 whites.

Also what is a good range as far as mcd? some I see as low as 6000mcd and white that are 160k mcd. I also found some blue rated at 40k mcd. Would those leds work?

First of all completely ignore what they quote for mcd rating most of it is complete BS.

I have a project and I opted to change from the 5mm led to .5w LED because while both of them are low output the 5mm led are really really low output. You can do what you want but aside from telling your this is a poor choice to adding to your light.. I'd reccomend using the .5w leds.
