couldn't get the "layer" type coralline

any tips?

You will need to introduce it (the algae or its spores) into your tank. In nature, it is common to have one type dominate; seeing multiple types is more common in captivity (although competition often results in one dominant type in captivity as well).

Yep, the coralline you have won't start plating (that's a different type).
