DIY Magnetic Stirrer ..anyone ever built one?

I've seen plans for these online using a computer fan and HD magnet but don't have access to an old HD to use. Has anyone ever built one of these with a regular magnet? If so, which type of magnet do you recommend? I was hoping to just buy the stir bar and magnet from an online vendor but I'm not sure which one to get. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

I've seen a LFS with one keeping their phyto stirred, in a fridge, with an auto-doser hooked up. Can't wait to see what you find, interested how you put this together.

These have to be simple to do.

A DC PWM controllable motor,

a PWM generator(arduino or whatever), motor control circuit(maybe),

magnets and epoxy to encase them.

I think you could do it for $50 maybe $70 maybe much less.

My concern is the type of magnets used. I'm not so sure what strength they need to be and where the poles need to be lined at (axially, diametrically, thru)

Would anyone know this info for certain?

You can get a magnetic stirrer off of ebay for under $40.

I've been looking into them for use in a refridgerated automatic doser so I can feed my NPS coldwater tank.
