twenty12
Looking to identify this. I have had my tank 2.5 years. Just started showing up lately and multiplying like crazy. Purple tubes that are small and hard. Seem to let out yarn like strands when I clean tank or disturb stuff like they are filter feeding. Do I need to worry? Link to comment
rain-
Quite possibly vermetid snails (here's a photo and another). They are basically harmless, but sometimes they spread really fast (like you've noticed) and some consider them as pests. Link to comment
twenty12
If I touch them i can see it retract. The purple sinks back into the rock and the tube becomes clear. I can't see anything like in that first picture, but the second one looks the same. Link to comment
Justind823
Most definitely vermetid snails Link to comment
twenty12
So I see a lot of posts about them as a pest but not a serious threat. I think I would like to reduce the number. Anyone with suggestions on the best method? Some people say super glue... but seems tough as the tubes are so tiny. Any other methods? Link to comment
lakshwadeep
You can snap off the tubes, not just the ends but the entire bases, also. They can be sharp. Link to comment
TotesMaGoat
snap them off and glue the holes, or just straight up glue them. Their web got on my corals and closed some up so i got rid of mine Link to comment
