fcruz420
Calling all Fluval Edge Owners Lets help each other I figured this would be a cool idea to kind of have a central point for Fluval reefs. Please post - FTS- Equipment- Livestock- Obstacles, etc... Finally I must give credit to Latteslave as I got this idea from the 20L thread.... Quote Link to comment

I am building a new hang on back filter that is quite a bit bigger and has the room for a fuge, installing an ATO via the Reef Keeper Light, a DIY LED fixture that will be getting installed tomorrow. My thread is located at Reef Central in the nano forums. Thanks again for starting this thread. 1 Quote Link to comment

Riley007
This is my 1st foray into Salt Water Aquaria and i've started with the Edge as it is the coolest looking little tank on the block. The tank was started this January and has been running for about 9 weeks now. Equipment: Maxi-Jet 400 KPower Head for Maxi-Jet KNano Stealth 50w Heater 2x Coralife 50/50 10 watt. 2x LedWaves MR-11 Replacements. Check them out: http://www.ledwaves.com/Illum-MR-11-LED-Li...ED-p-19620.html I've also ordered some waterproof led fixtures from http://www.aquariumledlighting.co.uk/index.html * Specifically the Fusion Blue and a Red Razor Strip for Night Viewing. *NOTE that the 170mm fixtures or smaller fit in the stock hood of the Edge and that they will have a Brilliance model available shortly. Natural Filtration: 9.5 lbs of Vanuatu Live Rock 15 lbs of sand for a 1-2" sand bed Live Stock: CUC: 3 Astrea Snails (soon to be replaced), 1 Narcissus Snail (soon to be replaced), 3 Blue Legged Hermits, 1 Scarlet Reef Hermit, 1x Skunk Cleaner Shrimp. Corals: A group of Yellow Polyps, a pair of Australian Riccordea, some Zoa's and a Hammer Coral (R.I.P.)* Obstacles: Astrea Snails are usless as they need to be righted when they fall. Narcissus Snail i have is to large will replace with a smaller one or two as they are a blast to watch while feeded the tank. I lost the Hammer Coral, most likely a combination of not enough light and adding it to early to the tank. Thanks for the thread. -r Quote Link to comment
fcruz420
Thx Riley007. Its cool to see the circulation is not kicking up the sand. In addition, congrats for keeping the stock hood. Quote Link to comment
Riley007
Thx, i've been trying everything to keep the hood in place. I like the look of the tank and didn't want to mess with it. I'll post some more pics when i get back from vacation. -r Quote Link to comment
picoD
Hello Everyone! FTS taken March 6th, 2010 Equipment: - Aquaclear 20 filter with Pura Pad - 2- 3 x 1 Watt 12 Volt MR16 CREE XLamp XR-E WHITE 240 Lumen and 1 Coralife 10W Mini Compact Fluorescent 50/50 - 50w Rena heater in filter compartment _ Pura Pad pieces in filter compartment - Coralife digital thermometer Natural Filtration: - 7-8 lbs LR and 1 1/2" Sand Livestock: - 1 Skunk Cleaner Shrimp, 1 Sexy Shrimp, 1 Yellow Clown Goby, 2 Scarlet Reef Hermit Crabs, 2 Nerite Snails, 2 Cerith Snails, 3 (or more?) Mini Brittle Stars, Asterina Stars, 1 Bali Feather Duster Corals: - Frogspawn, Candycane, GSP, Sinularia, Orange Ricordea, 4 Assorted Zoo's, Red Gonipora, Pipe Organs, Pulsing Xenia, Clove Polyps, and a Shaving brush. Obstacles: - Damn bubbles- even when keeping my water level about 1/2inch above rim - Contorting my body to reach into the tank for re-arranging or cleaning- I have a flexible mechanic's "reacher tool" with a little retractable claw at the end, BUT when trying to move the rock by hand you are constantly knocking into corals. As far as cleaning, I am patiently waiting for a Nimble Nano so I do not have to reach to the very hard to reach places on glass which is pretty much all of the glass . (**I am aware that a solution to this issue would be to keep my hands othe ut of the tank**) - Still not completely pleased with my lighting situation Edited March 25, 2010 by picoD Quote Link to comment
horusmachine
Cool I have been keeping eye out these little tanks. I will be following this thread closely. We have one of these tanks setup as a pico reef equiped with a lighting upgrade. Not the prettiest thing but they are using 3 Ecoexotic LED arrays for daylights and actinics. They are laided on the top front of the tank rather sloppy, but the lighting is so much more improved from the stock lights. My main concerns are tank respiration as the top opening is small, over heating and lighting. Still its a pretty cool looking tank. H Quote Link to comment

The tank is looking awesome. I might be able to help ya out here..... -Damn bubbles - I top off like every other day. Maybe a cool ATO is needed. Im looking into this as well for my tank. - Contorting my body to reach into the tank for cleaning or re-arranging - I would recommend some long tongs. I got the 18" marineland tong, but they are not strong to move rocks. I've been also looking into the large forcep tweezers. i have the nanomag for cleaning, but I might buy the nimblenano as it looks better and more durable. shorty.do
Hi guys, I started my edge about 2 months ago, and I really hate the lightening. fcruz420
thx for stopping in Shamy. There are a few tanks on NR that have led setups. I would recommend a search in the top right corner. I've seen it done so far with led strips, mr11/mr16 replacements and custom led builds. All provide good amounts of light, but it really depends on your setup/scape IMO. shorty.do
some one has order maxspect 60? my friend did it on his tank, and he told me that it was like a spot light, it went just straight down, so he returned it. Well, let us know how it works out for you, please. I know that the maxspect fit the hood, if the attachment hand is removed. Quote Link to comment

fcruz420
This is often the case. However, if your going to do something like a coral island then the spotlight might work. some one has order maxspect 60? my friend did it on his tank, and he told me that it was like a spot light, it went just straight down, so he returned it. Well, let us know how it works out for you, please. I know that the maxspect fit the hood, if the attachment hand is removed. Nice light effect! Which lights? Color? Quantity? I believe el fab did a AC20 fuge. Do a quick search and it's probably in the pico guide. Has anybody figured out how to make a hang-on the back refugium for the Edge? Quote Link to comment
tigg62
I have 2 - Ecoxotic Stunner 6 Watt 18-8000K 6-453nm Blue LED Strip 12.5" and 1 - Stunner 6 watt 453nm Blue LED Strip 12.5" Thinking of getting 1 more of the blue..... Then making a custom housing and hanging it over the top. I have seen the AC20 fuge.. great idea, but I'm thinking a little bigger. I would like it as long as the back of the tank. picoD
Hello Everyone! I wanted to get some input from fellow Edge owners regarding something I never thought about until the record breaking "30 degree above normal", 91 degree temperature we had yesterday in NYC. I work from home, and although it was 86 degrees in my house, the heat wasn't bothering me since I am not exerting a lot of effort sitting in front of a computer. It suddenly dawned on me that my tank water could be above normal. And it was. I watched it climb from its normal temperature of 79-80 degrees to almost 83. I finally panicked, closed all of the windows, put on my central air, and watched the temperature VERY SLOWLY drop back to normal. Does anyone have a proposed solution for this potential summer problem? I do not know anything about chillers, so please excuse my ignorance on this one. If this in fact is the answer, recommendations would be appreciated. The only thing that I thought of as a "temporary fix" was to freeze a couple of RO ice-cubes, lol. Also, does anyone know what temp range the Edge can safely fall/rise to without jeopardizing its inhabitants? Thanks all, danielle Quote Link to comment

jbb
i've had this problem as well.... being in Texas, i can expect 20-30 100+ degree days so until i can find a solution i had to move everything back into my 10 gallon for better cooling. if anyone finds a way to lower the heat and still keep the sleek look i am all ears thanks, Bryan Quote Link to comment
