Rockfish
looks fine....the only thing I'd watch it the front left of the mantle looks like a bit of pinching there but it could be from something bothering it so give it a couple of days and see if it goes away really don't see a clear cut case of PM there good looking clam BTW How old is the tank?? what's your lighting like?? leaving it on the sand if fine just stick something under it like a flat rock or shell Link to comment

bonese
If the clams been in there for longer a week there is a good chance that he attached his foot to the bottom of your tank. Not bad so to say but moving him will be hard. The reason for the shell or rock underneath the clam is so that he can attach his foot, thus making it much easier for you to move him about with out stressing him out. If you pull a clam that is attached to LR or the bottom of your tank, and your really giving it a tug you might just rip the clam of his shell and leave his foot still attached. Just be gentle and you'll be fine. By the way he's fantastic looking! Link to comment
Deep Thief
^^^posted while I was typing^^^ Leaving it in the sand isn't going to hurt it, putting a shell or rock under it will just make things easier on you. Clams will put "feet" down from themselves to anchor themselves to what is around them. These "feet" are clear string like things that come from the bottom of the shell. If you put a shell (like an oyster shell) or rock under the clam and they attach to that then when it comes time to move the clam, you just pick the entire shell or rock with the clam attached and move it. This way you don't have to cut the feet to move it. Can you leave it as is, Yes. Can you cut the feet without hurting the clam, Yes. Like I said, putting the shell just makes it easier on you and less stressful on the clam. You say you don't like the look of an oyster shell in your tank. Let the clam put its feet down in the empty shell, then take some sand and spread it around the clam covering the shell. You will only have to deal with the look for a little while and you get the best of all worlds. Hope this makes sense. Mark Link to comment
madugo
thanks all for the reply...for some reason it is not attached to the sand bed.. i can pick it up really easy...just like picking up a piece of coral...is it normal? how long can their foot be? because my sand bed is around 3"...they can still penetrate that sand bed and attach the foot to the bottom of the tank? Bamato
He'll have to go pretty deep into the sand to get a good grip on the glass with a bed that deep. Pretty clam though I still think a crocea will be happier next to/on a rock... just my .02 though. Link to comment
