Niger12
I just got my 14g BioCube set up last week after sitting in the closet for two years. Really looking for an SPS and Clam inviroment. RapidLED has a Cree package that includes 24 LEDs with lenses two Meanwell drives power cords and thermal paste. Would this kit be overkill on a 14g. Been looking around at Nanotuners and RapidLED. Do you guys have any other suggestions for different sites. Also I don't want to search right know since it just popped into my head. Why is dimmable such a big deal. Been out of the game for about five years. Having trouble with patients. Can't wait to get this thing stocked Link to comment
evilc66
24 LEDs is not required at all. 12 is more than enough for anything you could want. Dimming is a big deal for many reasons. It makes things like acclimation a lot easier, as well as setting the final brightness for the tank inhabitants. If you are going with a heavy sps tank, it may not be as necessary, but being able to change your color temperature is usually reason enough for most. 12 LEDs on a pair of ELN-30-27D drivers will allow you to set your color temp and brightness, and will be able to keep anything you like. There is no need for optics on a tank this small. Link to comment
Niger12
I thought 24 would be two many but in the back of my head I kept thinking more is better. Also I was considering the retro kit from Nanotuners, as you are probably very familiar with that kit. Link to comment
evilc66
That's an option too. For a heavy sps tank, going with the Cree option might be a good idea. Link to comment
DustnF
After a ton of research, this is the exact setup i have ordered...hopefully it will be shipping out this week. You can get everything including heatsink, with the exception of your dimming setup for under $200 shipped from nanotuners. 12 LEDs on a pair of ELN-30-27D drivers will allow you to set your color temp and brightness, and will be able to keep anything you like.
