samier
Good day to all, I have a couple of questions that I hope you guys/gals can help me out with. I am in the hobby for the past 5 yrs. I had a 6 foot setup with sump but had to sell as as i need the space. I now have a nano cube. It has been running for 6 months. Tank - crushed coral -8kg of kenya live rock - red sea salt water (RO water used to mix) - 1200lph return pump - pieces of live rock in back compartment with ceramic rings and filter wool. - some crushed coral in filter back also in the back compartment. - Using standard lighting that comes with the nano cube DX 12g maintenance - top up done with RO water. - 10% water change once a week. - no additives added fish - 1 maroon clown - 1 banana wrasse 1 fire red shrimp corals small piece of montipora star polyps green mushroom leathery sponge. QUESTIONS: 1- how many fish can i add into this tank 2- what type of fish can i add? 3- can i put in cleaner shrimp and fire shrimp toegether. 4- should i change my substrate 5 - what type of corals can i keep with the standard lighting. 6 - what should i do about my biological filtration, what must i take out and what should i put in. 7 should i use additives. i curruntly have a liquid starter pack that has, iodine, trace elements, stronium, calcium, magnesium and a kh buffer but have not used it. 8 should i use a skimmer and if so what skimmer will fit into the back. Please help add any comments and advise even if i did not mention it above. y Link to comment

rhunter513
1. no more than two fish and the ones you have in there now are not ideal - both will need a MUCH bigger tank. 2. Many fish option - check out the fish suggestion on this site 3. pretty sure you can't mix a cleaner and fire shrimp esp in such a small tank 4. Yes - less than one inch sand bed or barebotton are better options - crushed coral will hold nutirents and cause high nitrates. 5. lots of options - again see suggestions on this site 6. This is a much debated topic BUT most will agree live rock is thr primary souce of bio-filtration. So at least 10 lbs of live rock in the display is all you really need. 7. additives will depend on what you keep so read up on what your livestock will needs. That being said, you will most likely need to dose alk and ca at some point after your tank matures. But weekly water changes are often enough to replenish trace elements. 8. yes on skimmer if you can find one that will fit - it appears that sapphire aquatics is out of business again. If you keep up with weekly water changes you'll be ok without one. Read read read - go slow - and use caution when taking the advice from your local fish store Link to comment
