Tangereen
FTS 1/21/10 I've taken on the challenge of a Twin Spot Goby. The tank seems to have a pretty decent population of pods, and I think it can support this fish. If anyone has any experience with this, please talk to me. And also, last fish, I promise! And finally, some hammer coral: Link to comment
Arkayology
Great tank. I like your choices of coral. I am not sure about that twin spot goby. It will eat those pods up pretty quickly. Link to comment
Tangereen
Update: A week and half ago, my cleaner shrimp died right after a water change. I tested the store-bought water, and it registered a 1.016 on both the hydrometer and refractometer. Ouch. I've since decided to mix my own water (Tropic Marin Salt Blend), and my tank seems to be doing better for it. Also, I decided against keeping the Twin Spot Goby - without a fuge, I wouldn't really be able to keep up with its nutritional needs. I took him into a fish store and I got a Tail Spot Blenny instead. Turns out, he is a joy to watch, and I'm much more comfortable with a fish that I can see eating. Also got a conch to keep the sand oh-so-white Plans: Gonna save up to expand my lighting and get a really nice clam. Link to comment
Tangereen
I've decided to set up a sump/fuge for my tank, and BOY is it a learning experience. After setting it up and letting it run for about an hour, I left the house to run some errands. Imagine my delight when upon returning to my house about two hours later, I find the electricity off, a burnt smell in my room, and gallons of water on the ground! Apparently, the siphon on my overflow box had failed and my display tank overflowed. A good portion of the water collected in my cabinet and shorted out one of my power strips (a separate one I keep just for the powerheads). The short also prompted a power outage in a whole section of the house. Anyway, long story short - the power outage caused the return pump to shut off, so it stopped the flooding before it became a catastrophe. The only thing that was really damaged was the power strip itself. Luckily, my main power strip is hung up inside the cabinet so it didn't do any damage there. I've since hung up the replacement power strip for the powerheads. I consider it a lesson learned. After some research on the internet, I found that CPR overflow boxes are notorious for losing their siphon. I really should have researched that as well, but I thought I could make it work - I got the box from a friend who wasn't using it anymore, and I mindlessly just started using it. Anyway, after fidgeting with it all afternoon, I've decided to replace the stock tube on top of the box (for sucking air out of the overflow) with some clear airline tubing I have running down to my sump. This has solved the problem of losing siphon and as a bonus, it removes air bubbles from the overflow pretty effectively. Alright, sorry for the long story. Pix for those of you who love them (pre-flooding): The overflow box: Sump/Fuge: Return pump (Maxijet 900), filter floss (in the baffles), and Chemipure Elite End of return line I only have Chaeto in the fuge at the moment, gonna keep it that way for a while. Thank you for listening to my story - I hope your experience with sumps aren't quite as traumatic as mine. Link to comment
Billdemart
What a nice, clean tank. Love it. Link to comment
Arkayology
Ya, lesson learned with the sump. I hope that it works out well for you know with the adjustments. The return of the two-spot may have been a good call just to be on the safe side. Either way, the tail spot should be a very active member of the tank. Good choice. Something to think about it is that blennies have been known to nip at clam mantles. You said you were interested in clams right? I would research what people say about your blennie and clams. Just a thought. How about a FTS? Link to comment
Tangereen
How about a FTS? Quick angle shot and FTS (lights just came on) A friend is leaving for the east coast and he's got a Squamosa he needs to get rid of, so I will look into the blenny/clam situation. Link to comment
