Hey halfpint. Your pictures look awesome. I'm really impressed with those snake pictures you took with the 18-55mm lens.

Sorry if you already mentioned it, but which Canon DSLR camera do you use?

Thanks!

Thanks, Brian. The kit lens (which is an IS lens) is awesome. The body is the Canon 450D (A.K.A. Rebel XSi). I love it. I can't wait to get the Canon 100mm Macro and a speedlite.

As you may be aware I just recently got a new digital camera, but the Canon 450D kit has become available to me at a really good price through my work so I am considering exchanging my camera for it.

It's nice to see some really nice closer shots with that lens such as the snake ones I mentioned. Do you have any reef shots taken with the 18-55 mm lens or the new 50 mm f1.8 lens that you purchased?

The Canon 100mm macro lens is so expensive, but some of the pictures I've seen from it look fantastic!

I would recommend the 450D. Like I said, I love it. I'll try to find some reef shots. I know I have some with the kit lens, but not sure if I've taken any with the 50 prime. Since I got that lens, I've used it mounted, and the kit lens reversed to get extreme macros. The #1 photo is with that setup. It's 100% un-cropped. That's a nickel.

All photos in post #12 were taken with my older Pentax DSLR.

Here's an unedited shot with the 50mm. It's a pretty clear lens, and really fast, being a 1.8. I'll see if I can find some reef shots with the 50 and post them.

You can reverse the kit lens!? :o

^ That picture rocks! I have until thursday to decide if I'm going to exchange my camera and get a DSLR (probably the D450).

Any pics of your reef with the kit lens would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot for the information so far man, and your pictures really do look fantastic.

My current setup. Next up to buy is the Canon 100mm 2.8L IS USM.:bling:

EDIT: NO, I do not still have little Christmas trees out on my bathroom counter. I took this back in December, when I bought my lens and flash. :P

Thanks. That flash is amazing. I've been shooting so long without a flash (never had an external, and built-ins suck) that I have to learn use it. Bouncing light with it is fun, but can be challenging.

YCG was taken with a Pentax *ist DL, 18-55mm 4.5-5.6.

Ricordea was taken with Canon 450D, can't remember which lens. Probably the stock 18-55 IS lens.
