DarkStarReef
Im just wondering if my eye's are bigger than my tank, i have a 10gal tank that im using to grow cloarine algea on my live rocks and the tufa rock so when i get my 29gal bio cube in febuary ill have some nice looking live rock to add. But i also have a bunch of inverts that ive collected over the 6months i had the tank. The last pic shows one of the tufa rocks that has cloarine algea growing on it. Here's The List: 1 starfish ( about 1.24'' dia) 1 dark blue tuxedo erchint ( gumball size) 2 very small hermit crabs (under 1/4'') 3 small blue leg hermit crabs (1/2'' and under) 3 medium scarlet hermit crabs (1/2''-3/4'') 3 small astarea turbo snails (1/2'' and under) 2 medium conk snails (1/2''-5/8") 2 very small unknown type snails (both about 3/8'') Here's some pics: http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo283/D...ef/IMG_4396.jpg http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo283/D...ef/IMG_4434.jpg http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo283/D...ef/IMG_4424.jpg http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo283/D...ef/IMG_4421.jpg http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo283/D...ef/IMG_4386.jpg Link to comment
IMaNoob
probably too many hermits and turbos Link to comment
thebrainbot
Not sure about the starfish. I've been told they have a heavy bioload and will grow pretty large. Think a few people said no to those in even a 24g. But I'm not sure.. it may depend on species. But yeah, I'd remove the hermits, or at least most of them. Link to comment
OkcKoolaid
your hermits will kill your snails for their shells Link to comment
Greenstar
or they die of starvation and you blame the hermits, either way Link to comment
dangeroo2
won't the urchin eat the coraline? and if the starfish is sand sifting (i didn't look at the pic) it will strip your sand of alot of life that could add to the biodiversity you are trying to establish in your rock. Link to comment
skydive
Astraea or Turbo snails? Three Astraeas would be better than three Turbos. Turbos get big and knock over a bunch of stuff and if they die and you don't catch it they can spike the ammonia. Link to comment
Shack
1 starfish ( about 1.24'' dia) 1 dark blue tuxedo erchint ( gumball size) 2 very small hermit crabs (under 1/4'') 3 small blue leg hermit crabs (1/2'' and under) 3 medium scarlet hermit crabs (1/2''-3/4'') 3 small astarea turbo snails (1/2'' and under) 2 medium conk snails (1/2''-5/8") 2 very small unknown type snails (both about 3/8'') You have a total of 17 cleaners for a 10 gallon tank. Usually, the ratio is 1 cleaner per 1 gallon of water, with the exception being turbo snails. For turbo snails (mexican turbos, not astrea) it is 1 per every 10 gallon. So, the starfish is good, the erchint is good, you should probably remove 1 small blue leg hermit crab, 1-2 medium scarlet hermit crabs, 1-2 small astrea turbo snails, 1 medium conk snail, and one of the mystery snails . The problem with keeping in 17 is that a good portion of them will not get enough food, which will cause them to starve and die. You can certainly have 12 cleaners for your tank, but I wouldnt go much higher than that. Also, do realize that the hermits may eat the snails, so you may want to choose hermit crabs or snails (I personally chose snails, as they can clean the sides of the tank, while hermits can not) Link to comment
