Markj2210
HI, I'm new to this and was wondering if anyone knows much about cleaner shrimp? I have a nano cube hqi and every time I turn the main light on the shrimp hides from it, either under a piece of rock or under the pump inlets. Is this to do with the shrimp not liking too much light or something to do with the heat from it? Do they get much light in the wild? Thanks Mark Link to comment

clownfish1124
maybe it's just shocked after the very powerful light turns on. does it come out later on as it adjusts? Link to comment
Markj2210
Hi and thanks, Thats what made me think, the shrimp will hide all the time and when the light goes off out he comes and does his normal thing? Are they nocternal or something? I think the nano cube is great. Temperature concerns me a bit as it drops to 75 during the night and goes up to 81 with 5 hours lighting. Im not sure if 81 is its operating limit or whether it will keep rising when I up the lights to 12 hours? Thinking of buying a reef keeper 2 for the top ups and adding a fan on the back. I know it defeats the object but are there any other lights I could put in that run cooler? The four fans can be a bit noisey in my lounge where it is situated. Link to comment
Markj2210
It turns out that in the wild cleaner shrimp live in caves or under rocky areas down to a depth of 20m. Some varieties are nocturnal. This would explain why mine hangs upside down away from the light all the time. Ideally there should be overhangs or crevices in the aquarium to give them shelter. They also have eyes like flies so that they see multi images. Just thought I would post this because I found it interesting and hate the thought of them suffering because they cant get under cover. Might get another one so hes not lonely. ahhh Link to comment
