JerseyChick
So during a fallow period... Keep the light cycle as regular? ALL advice needed on this! Thanks (ich was in the tank and I want it to die out before anything else goes in, that could potentially be a host) Link to comment
johnmaloney
not if you don't have anything you need to grow. you can just leave the light out and save money. the denitrifying bacteria you want to grow don't care about lights. Link to comment
JerseyChick
I have the half dead frogspawn (purchased that way) and it's amazingly flourishing with me. I also have some purple mushrooms. A few hermits too ETA (pics): Link to comment
tinyreef
not sure what you mean by a "fallow period" as the tank shouldn't need to regenerate (can't really) nutrients without outside input or significant livestock already in it. if there's any livestock in the tank, it should be on some kind of photoperiod. especially so imo, if there's any photosynthetic livestock. vangvace
Yes you should continue your photoperiod. Do you have a QT tank yet Jersey? Tinyreef - fallow period in this case normally refers to being fishless for 40+days allowing for the ich at the beginning of it's life cycle to die off. Any fish in the system though and the ich lives on. Link to comment

JerseyChick
Yeah i am sorry guys, when I went back I realized I didn't add in the reason for my "fallow" Sorry Link to comment
vangvace
Looking on the bright side though Jersey. You now have the opportunity to really make your pod numbers establish and other invertebrates take hold. If you know another nearby reefer (or even LFS) see if they'll give you a cup of sand from their tank or some of their macroalgea to shake out into your tank. The more expensive route would be buying a detrivore kit. Good luck Link to comment
JerseyChick
The pod numbers are already "growing" and I even have what I believe are "hydroids" but I am probably wrong... I just took this and if you look close you can see the pods swimming there are about 100 (but they are the size of a pinhead (if that) Link to comment
