BGpigmy Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Hi, i just ordered a costom hood for my jbj 12g nano cube. Im going to have 6 watts per gallon, i also have very high water flow. What are some really cool looking sps corals i can have?
clownfish1124 Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 is it the nanocustoms 3x24 watt compact fluorescent?
saltyliving Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 you will not be able to keep acros. i had a red monti cap under AP24 stock lighting for 4 months. coloration and growth suck but it was alive. better stick w/ softies and LPS
petkingdom619 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 if i can attach to this thread. I just got a frag of birdsnest and another of what looks almost the same but different color. I am running 250watt mh over the 24g. Do I need to feed these or do they grow on there own? Do they need calcium? I dont test for it. also , i have some cyclop eeze flake food. my fish dont like it, so can i disentagrate it in some water and feed it to corals?

RIP little birdsnest frags. is it the nanocustoms 3x24 watt compact fluorescent? Maaaaaybe birdsnest and montis. I wouldn't bother though. Wait until you not only have the proper lighting, but also FULLY understand the requirements of keeping SPS. Trust me, I'm having to learn the hard way (30ish SPS frags and still not 100% sure of what I'm doing...scarey).
d0ughb0y Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 read this thread to see an example that you can grow acropora using PC light. That tank has about 13w/gal though compared to your 6. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...t&p=1614470 A previous tank of the month also has SPS and clam using PC light only (32watts on 7 gal I think). It can be done.

I have had tanks for about 2 years now and have been keeping SPS for about 8 months now. I am just getting to the point where my parameters are stable enough and I have been getting growth and coloration out of them. I actually thought they were pretty boring when I first started so I never really saw the draw to them. I do now though

lakshwadeep Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Read the care sheets listed here for good info: http://www.asira.org/caresheets
ldballoon4 Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 you can grow acros, not text book though under PC, keep them high, I have Aussie acans who are living , but colors are no where near when i got them. montiporas again need to go high, if your light is LOW keep the quality of your water HIGH.
