sspark
VERY IMPRESSIVE!!!! what camera are you using to take the pictures? those are some BEAUTIFUL pics!!! Link to comment
luisgo
For these photos I used a Nikon D40x. I have two lenses; one is a Nikon zoom 18-70mm, f2.8 and a Nikon AI-S 105mm macro 2.8. The macro is a film manual lens with no metering in my digital camera. You have to play with speed and aperture. Excellent Nikon glass for just $200 used vs. $700 for a new Nikon AF-S 105mm macro. One interesting thing is that I started this cube because of the club contest and now I am totally exited with the cube. Any club can do the same with amazing results on the members! If you are in a local club you can introduce the idea to other members. Link to comment
luisgo
After reading here about alternatives for filtering my cube I decided to change to a modified AquaClear AC50 and use it as a refugium for Cheato. The flow of the Marieland 100 was a little strong and the AquaClear can be adjusted from 66 to 200 gallon per hour. I also cut the blades of the impeller a little to even reduce more the flow. It is working very nice. The lamp to light the Cheato is a Jebo, 7 watts PC 6500K. Here are the photos The fan fits very nice on top of the filter Everything is ready for the Cube Challenge Link to comment

luisgo
We are one week from the Cube Challenge and my Pico is ready. I have some new fish in my cube. One is a Threadfin Shrimp Goby, a Pyjama Cardinal and a Percula Clown. Maybe they are more than what I can have in a 3 gallon pico but lets see what happens. Link to comment
Ryan_H
tank is beautiful! that is either the biggest rosebanded goby or the smallest pj cardinal i have ever seen heads up though, i think that when one of our members here put a pair of tiny clownfish (like 1/2" a piece) in his congtest 2.5 with a 5 gallon sump it may have cost him the contest. his tank looked like someone had photoshopped about a 200 gallon tank into the 2.5 and he still lost after several negative comments on the fish. luisgo
No doubt this is a very small pyjama cardinal. It's about 3/4". The reason I added this two little fishes to the cube is that the public visiting the fish show will be voting for the cubes. This will be in a shopping mall. Just imagine the little kids screaming for "nemo" in my cube! That is why fish were added close to the show date, which is this weekend. Who knows what I will do after the show. Maybe I will sell the cube if some crazy kid fall in love with my nemo Belive me the only Photoshop to these photos is some croping, sharpening and auto levels. This tank is 9" wide just for reference. Link to comment
Ryan_H
ah, if the public will be voting then you have a pretty good shot I personally don't see a problem with the fish selection as long as you understand that it won't be a good permanent home and the potential water chemistry issues, but others around here are a little more uptight about that stuff. luisgo
Now the Cube Challenge is over and I got the second place. There were 8 cubes, two saltwater reefs and six freshwater planted. The cubes were the main attraction at the show. In addition to the cubes there were ten tanks with freshwater fish mainly ciclids. Here are photos of my cube the day before the show. Link to comment
