What to do about low CA in Tropic Marin?

I just switched salt mix from Coralife to Tropic Marin. I liked the Coralife and didn''t have any issues with it but I wanted to try the Tropic Marin and see if I could tell the difference. After mixing some Tropic Marin for my water change I tested the calcium and it's reading 360. The Coralife that is in my tank is reading 460. My question is, is this change going to harm anything? And what is the best way to raise my calcium back up after my water change? I normally don't dose anything but kalkwasser once during the week and I do a 4gal water change every Sun on my 20g. I have a few SPS, Zoos, Shroom, LPS and a clam and every thing is doing well. I also just found a can of Tropic Marin Bio-Calcium (don't ever remember buying it?) in the closet, would that work or should I just go out and get a bag of Coralife and mix the two together?

Thanks,

Ross

Are you using Tropic Marin or Tropic Marin Reef Pro. I dose 2part to keep my Ca and Alk up.

I'm using Tropic Marin. Up to this point I haven't dosed other than kalkwasser once during the week and even then I didn't do it every week. I really don't want to get into dosing if I don't have too.

The Tropic Marin Bio Calcium should work great, I know some people who have used it with great success.

Out of curiosity, were you having any kinds of problems at all with the Coralife salt?

I ask because it's one I had actually thought of trying, but I haven't heard of many people who have used it.

No, I didn't have any problems with it. I had just run out of it and I have heard some good stuff about the Tropic Marin so I thought I'd give it a shot. My corals have all grown quite a bit since I started using the Coralife and all my water chem was where it needed to be.

This will help with figuring out how much too add...... http://reef.diesyst.com/flashcalc/flashcalc.html

Thanks Mark, I have book marked this and I will be sure to use it.

you can add kent turbo calcium powder to increase the calcium.

I find I have to add a lot more than the bottle directions say using liquid ca (either single bottle or two part). I only need to add a pinch of the ca powder to bring low ca up. You can try by adding a small pinch at a time.

As someone else pointed out, I think you should have gotten the pro version of the salt. red sea salt is the same, there is the pro and non-pro type.

Thanks dOughbOy,

After reading about the differences with the regular and the pro I was under the impression that the pro was for people who had cal reactors and I don't. I thought some where I read that they said it had lower CA? I don't know, I could have read it wrong wouldn't be the first time.

Your right..the PRO is only for use if you have a reactor....or...so Tropic Marin says.

The reason (so I read that the TM rep says) is that the PRO version has lower ALK. CA reactors tend to raise your ALKover time, thus lower ALK.

Rea Sea Pro vs. Non-pro, thats a different thing and has nothing in common with the wording that TM uses.

I use the regular TM with the lower ca and I love it.......I'll tell you why!

If you reef like you are supposed to, and dose ca and alk every day, you have a rythm in your tank. Doing a big water change would spike your ca if you were using water with a higher level of ca......atleast that is the best I can figure because even after 10-15% changes, my ca levels stay solid around 415 to 430 ppm.
