EspiE
I got a 14K HQI pendant today for my 29g BioCube. It's getting converted to a top-view tank. =) The moonlights on the pendant are MUCH brighter than the ones that I had in my stock hood. Does anyone think this will negatively affect my corals? I used to run the old ones 24/7, but I may have to put these on a timer. Has anyone else done this? Let me know what you think. =) Link to comment
lakshwadeep
It should be okay. In the natural reefs, the lack of "shade" allows for moonlight to be pretty bright. There's rarely total darkness, which can happen in residential settings. I've heard that fish are more calm when there's some constant light. 24/7 is fine, since the LEDs will not make a big, probably positive, difference. Link to comment
mrbigshot
it may affect breeding of some fish (clowns for example breed in total darkness before monlight) and animars are more active in full darkness (my pepperment, ans most of my snails are way more active without moonlights). however i have run them 24/7 and everything survives just fine. a timer is cheap and under $10 if you plan on going that route, mine automatically come on after my lights shut off (current sundail). i will shut them off from time to time. EspiE
cool. I've got them coming on when the lights go out, turning off for about 3 hours in the middle of the night, and coming back on about 3 hours before "sunrise" again. Thanks for the advice guys. Link to comment
